MacNarmee, grounds foreman of the campus, the grading and landscape work in pro-1 gress around the new University hos- pital and Observatory will be entirely completed within the next ten days. The work now being done around the hospital consists of the curbing and paving of the courts, the landscaping of the grounds immediately bordering on the "new building, and the planting of shrubs and grass in this area. Owing to the poor grade of the soil around the hospital, and in as much as the expense of bringing in rich ground would be too great, it was de- cided to plant only the ground close- ly bordering the hospital, and to sow I buckwheat, rye, and -clover for the next two years in the area farther from the building, thus enriching the ground to such an extent that a lawn can be made. A steam shovel is at work on the north side of the Observatory cut- ting down the high bank there to the level of East Ann street which is be- ing paved. The grounds around the Obesrvatory will be terraced as soon as possible, and a side-walk put in on the south side of Ann street.
