Patterson Back From New Haven Dean Patterson of the Enginering school has returned from New Hav- en, Conn., where he participated in the reunion of his class of 1884, at Yale. "At the time of the Yale bicenten- nial in 1901," says Dean Patterson, "the class of 1884 started the custom of having class headquarters for re- unions which would serve all the de- mands of living requirements. - Be- fore 1901 the university authorities were to set apart rooms where each class could hold its meetings. But it was not what you could hardly call headquarters, being inadequate for sleeping and eating purposes."- "Strange as it may seem", Dean Patterson said, "the reunion of 1024 was the most successful the class ever g4. Of Qe hundred living graduates sixty-seven were back." The dean reported that as far as he knew, there were no alcoholic stim- ulants at any of the class headquar- ters. The classes in general cooper- ated with the college authorities in prohibiting intoxicants. "All the expenses of the reunion are raised in advance by subscription," said the dean. "There is no charge for anything at headquarters during the entire week. This year there was a luncheon at the New Haven Yacht. club for members and the ladies, and on Monday evening a dinner at head- quarters for the fathers and their sons T1esdy noon a buffet luncheon was served for all the members of the class and their families. On other oc- casions the ladies ate in their own private dining rooms at headquarters. Tuesday afternoon the class of 1884 led the alumni parade around the Yale baseball field, before the Yale- Harvard game. Wednesday was com- mencement day and on Friday, the classes went in special cars to New London to witness the Yale-Harvard boat race." Dean Patterson concluded, "The absence of President Angell, Michigan, 1890, who is Ill at John Hopkins uni- versity hospital, was the only unhappy feature of-the entire week." Washington, July 8.--The appoint- ment of Jerome Michael of New York as special assistant to the attorney general was announced today by At- torney General Stone. He will be in control of the prosecution of all war fraud cases originating through trans- actions with the quartermaster corps of the army. i Heads Republican Speakers Bureau II .......I AT THE THEATERS Screen-Today Majestic - Antoino Moreno in " Tiger Love "; "Fearless Fools," a two reel comedy; Kinograms.
