Campus Women Invited To Party Casting away the worries of cram- ming for blue books and mid-semes- ters for a few hours this afternoon, the women on the campus will gather' on the cool and inviting porcl'es of Betsy Barbour house to sip ice cold punch and munch dainty wafers. For those who care to dance, music will be furnished. Betsy Barbour house is a new dor- mitCory on the campus, having been in operation for only two years. It was a gift of Mr. Levi Barbour of De- troit, who is also the originator. of the Barbour scholarship fund which provides for the education here of many Oriental women. Much of the furniture in this house is a part of the collection ,ofantiques which has been in the Barbour fam- ily for many years. The Betsy Bar- bour room itself will prove a delight to lovers of real antique 'furniture as it is completely executed in old col- onial period furniture, some of which is more than 100 years old. The horse-hair stuffed chairs and book- cases are particularly interesting. The party is given by the Women's league but all women on the campus and wives of students are cordially in- vited to drop in any time between 4 and 5:30 o'clock this afternoon. WOMEN SEEK TO ENTER C CAMRIDE UNIVESITY 2,6, S") N 1PETITION TO SECUIE FULL RECOWNITION, BUT ARE REFUSED London, June 30 (by mail).-Oxford university now admits women freely to its degrees and to university mem- bership, but Cambridge still locks its doors against them. Naturally the women don't feel a bit grateful for i such glimpses. They want the doors unlocked. The women from the Cambridge Col. leges of Newnham and Girton have demanded admission to degrees'and university membership on the same terms as men. Not long ago some Crect. The reply given by the uni- versity was polite, but unsatisfactor. tory. 1 o "Real Degrees" Given Within the last two years Cambridge has voted and countervoted oli vari- ous proposals to admit women. The only proposal which it has actually carried-and to this practical effect has not yet been given--is that wom- en who are qualified for degree status may obtain "titles of degrees", bu not real degrees. In making this half-hearted offer Cambridge is proposing to treat wom- en just as it formerly treated Jews and Nonconformists; wihom also it tried to satisfy with the titular re- gree until parliament stepped in and compelled the university to abolish its discriminations of creed. Now women want parliament to in- tervene and compel Cambridge tol their sex. And signs are not lacking that Cambridge itself is beginning to see that it will not pay to keep the women knocking at their doors much longer.
