THE SUMMER MICHIGAN DAILY PAGI 0 I hey 'reIn Again! Dempsey Agrees To Battle Wills That Jack Dempsey will meet Harry Wills, negro heavy weight, for the world's championship heavy weight boxing title seems a certainty but when and where is so far undecided. The contract is said to be ready and awaits only the signatures of the fighters to make is a surety and the managers and promoters have ass'ured the pubilic that the fight will take place. At present it does not look as if the battle will be staged before spring. Probably the plae will be either Manhattan or Jersey City but this depends largely on the legal points involved. This will be the first fight between a negro and a white man for the crown since 1915, when Willard won from Johnson at Havana. Then in 1910 there was another such affair between Jeffries and Johnson at Reno. Dempsey in probably a better fighter than either Willard or Jeffries, while Wills although not as clever as the wily Johnson, is bigger and hits with tremendous force, harder by far than Johnson. Wills has the advantage physically for he has two Inches more reach and is an inch and a half tall- er than the present champion, while he weighs close to 215 pounds, and it is doubtful if Dempsey will enter the ring heavier than 200._ White Swan Laundry for quality and service. The United States will probably enter a team in the near future. France has the strongest team from the indica- tions at present. Charles Paddock has started break- ing records again. At Santa Barbara on the Fourth he broke five and equal- ed several others. Those broken were the 175 yard (17 seconds); 125 yards (12 1-5 seconds); 80 yards (7 4-5 sec- onds); 70 yards (7 1-10 seconds); 60 yards (6 1-5 seconds). Paddock also equalled the record of 9 3-5 for the hundred, and 7 3-5 for the 75 yard dash. "Ernie" Vick, captain of last year's baseball team and now with the St. Louis National league team, caught in the morning game against Cincinnati on the Fourth. He got two hits in three times at bat, one of them a double, and he started a double play. McCurdy, who caught on the Chicago University team last year played on Wednesday and got two hits in three trips to the plate. Walter Wesbrook remains in the third round of the National clay court tennis championship at Indianapolis along with Tilden, Garland, Fritz Bas- tian and other stars of the court. He defeated J. White of Ardmore, Pa., 6-4. 6-2. Tilden, paired with Sandy Wiener his 14 year old protege, looks the semi-finals of the women's inter- national tennis tournament at Wim- bledon, England, when she defeated Mrs. Edington 6-2,6-4. She will meet Mrs. Peacock in her next match and if the winner faces the one who comes out ahead in the match between Mlle. Lenglen of France, and Mrs. Beam- ish of England.
