,If THE MICRIGAN DAILY lines, MSU Te e Battle DAILY CASSIFIWED ,ADS'. East Lan- Michigan State most recently split a weekend series with Min- nesota. The Spartans are current- ly in fourth place in the WIHL, tied with North Dakota and Min- nesota. A Spartan, win tonight, how- ever, would push MSU into a third place tie with Michigan. Despite a disastrous start, the Wolverines are still in third place. They have won three- league games while dropping six, for a total of five points. With the exception of John' Hutton, who will not play because of a broken bone in his hand, Michigan is expected to be in good physical condition. Michigan Reaching Form The Wolverines gave evidence in their game with Michigan Tech last Saturday night that they are reaching top playing form and are set to play top-notch hockey the remainder of the season. Michigan State's main concern is scoring strength - the same problem that confronted it last season. The Spartans hgve been able to average only about three goals per game, while their oppo- sition has been averaging close to fiye goals. On Feb. 1, Michigan will travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to play the U.S. Nationals, a team composed of both armed forces and civilian personnel from throughout the United States. The team is sponsored by the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States and will repre- sent this, country in the World Games from Feb. 28 through March 9 at Oslo, Norway. Phi Delts Swim Title Phi Delta Theta put together a strong team effort yesterday after- noon to overcome Sigma Phi Epsi- lon for the I-M Fraternity Swim Championship. The 34-23 score, didn't, how- ever, reflect the closeness of the. meet. It was a nip and tuck strug- gle that was decided only by fast wall touches by the P1 Delts in the final two events. Bernie Rinella's fine freestyle legs in the 100 yd. relay as well as the medley relay and his first in the .50 yd. freestyle, was the big point getter for the Phi Delts. Other standout performers for the winners Were Dave Morril, 'the winneir of the 25 yd. breastroke; Maynard Evans, who placed first in the 25 yd. freestyle and Byrne Marshall who along with Rinella was outstanding in the freestyle and medley relays. Buz Gutowski was the sole win- ner for the Sig Eps with a 13.6 'clocking in the 25 'yd. baclfstroke event.
