Hell is a popular gathering place for people 'who have retired from active life, but the Mayor of Hell, Erdly VanSickle, invites St udents Bine Walter Anicka Design A'wards James A. Van Sweden, '59A&D and Robert J. Landman, '58A&D were announced winners of the Walter Anicka sketch problem prizes Wednesday night. Anicka, '35, an Ann Arbor ar- chitect, provided four sketch prob- lem prizes, each worth $150, two to be given each semester of the academic year 1957-58. One prize each semester is given to a -stu- dent registered in intermediate design courses and one to a stu- dent in the advanced courses. The awards are in the form of $150 credit toward tuition ex- penses payable to the University, or, in case the winner is in his last semester, the award is in cash. There were approximately 75 entries. The Juries weire composed of instructors representing each of the design grades for which sub- missions are made, plus Anicka. Van Sweden was the winner in the intermediate division. Honor- able mention was given to Donald E. Van Curler, '60- A&D; Leon R Hatch, '59A&D; and Thomas T-K Zung, A&D., Landman received first prize in the advanced division. Honorable mention went 'to Frederick J. Ste- phenson, '58A&D; Frank E. Arens '58A&D; and Leslie D. Tincknell '58A&D. The problem for the intermedi- ate division was to draw an infor- mation booth - one of several to be located at strategic points on several entrances to Detroit. The building was to be placed at the side of the road so that cars c n drive in an dpark for informatiot or drive up for directions without getting out of the car. Static parking was to be pro- vided for six cars. Also included in the problem were directions as to what should be contained in- side the building.
