THE MICHIGAN DAILY POOR SHOWING: Janham Hits Training CLASSIFIED AD VERTISIN 1 By AL JONES igan's sixth-place finish in urday's Big Ten cross coun- ils rates as the poorest per- ce by a recent Wolverine n Conference play. lly, the harriers' finish looks orse when the fact that only nplete teams were entered, State, Purdue, and North- i had no teams, and Wis- didn't enter enter a full or the failure of am, which earlier I fondled possible tied according to' Poor Physical Shape principle trouble was that the men were not in top for the big meet. Of the )est runners, Geert Keil- [-elmar Dollwet and Jack two were not ready to run. et, according to Canham; didn't train enough this id wasn't in the proper 1 shape for the Big Ten le didn't run against I111- e previous week, and thus competitive experience this i, who was looking good in the fall, suffered from 1 cramps against Illinois, and wasn't able to work back into shape by last Saturday. Keilstrup Top Performer Thus, of the top three men, Keilstrup was the only one to finish in the top twenty. His fifth- place ranking, and Don Truex's twentieth-place finish were the only two respectable performances from Wolverines Saturday, Canham states that if Dollwet had run well the team could have placed third behind Michigan State and Iowa. For a higher finish it would have required Dollwet to be in the top five with Keilstrup, and Green also in the top ten. Another problem with Canham was faced with was the inexperi- ence of the other runners on his team. Besides Truex, none of the other sophomores or juniors turned in good .performances. Bernie Wall and John Dierdorff didn't match Truex's performance in their first Big Ten meet, and senior Milt Robinson was also way down the line. Green Sophomores "If the green sophomores had done better, and Dollwet had run. as expected, we could have finished second behind State," Canham said. Another problem confronted at Washington Park in Chicago where the Conference meet was held was the weather. Assistant Coach El- mer Swansoh said that the race was run in a constant downpour, and that the times were all a minute and a half off the usual clocking. Minnesota's Leonard Edelson won the race in 21 min- utes and 9.4 seconds, compared to Keilstrup's 20 minutes and 30 sec- onds time the week before to place first in the Illinois meet. So Van Heusen's research department asked around and got the following answers. L.B. Senior at Mass. Insti- tute of Entomology. "The but- tons keep things from crawling under your collar. Or, if things do crawl under your collar, the buttons prevent them from crawling out again." D.D.E. Freshman at H'ora- tio Alger Tech. "You get more buttons so I figure the shirt is more valuable. Is it?" . B.P. Junior at the Pate School of Tonsorial Arts. "They're cooler! Wisps of air blow through the little hole in the button and keep my clavicle at a refreshing tern- shirts I can wear one side but- toned and the other side un- buttoned, thereby giving the effect of wearing two types of shirt at one time. Oh help me, help me!" Z.J. Graduate student at the T.S. Swinburne School of" Beautiful Experiences. "But- tons remind me of pearls. Pearls remind me of oysters. Oysters remind me of indigestion. Indi- gestion reminds me of my doc- tor. My doctor reminds me of his nurse. She's gorgeous. Gor- geous! So the more buttons the better." Yes, there's agreement that button-down collars are the thing.
