University EYES ON FASHIONS WINTER COATS By NANCY VERMULLEN Coat fashions this year make it easy to be pretty and warm at the same time. The Oval Silhouette is the most significant new coat fashion. As its name implies, it has a supple rounded look and stands away from the body across the shoulders. SHORT STYLES .. . Another rising fashion is the Shorter-Than-Long Coat, 38-40 inches. It is high fashion in the oval silhouette, but has more uni- versal appeal when just slim or tubular, often double-breasted -- frequently with low placed patch pockets. The slim straightline coat continues for fall as a basic silhouette at all pricelines. It's newest in Balenciaga Chesterfield coats, very much in the current dressy-casual trend as opnosed to the more formal dressy trend. It is softened by other new fall signatures, as the Balenciaga yoke, shaped collar and rounded shoulders. SHADES OF BROWN . . The color palette in winter coats favors the brown family this season, from beige or oatmeal, to taupe, to medium browns. The blue family takes next top billing, emphasizing sapphires and royal blues, with some navy tagging on. Reds, from raspberry to burgundy, through to clear reds, often deepened with black or brown, are strong contenders for third place. protection Our laundry divides each bundle received into several parts. Each part goes into a net bag. The net bags filled with clothes go into the washer. Suds and water 'run freely through the open mesh of the nets. Yet the nets protect clothes from tangling and knotting. Have your clothes' washed in nets regularly to protect them and get them cleaner.
