TBE MICMGAN DAILY s SATURDAY, OCTOM 11, I95T THE MICHIGAN DAILY SATURDAY, O~TOBU II, 1957 Yot Campu To Host Visitors Tomorrow Tomorrow a research community will be host to students, alumni, faculty and townspeople in the first "open house" since its birth five years ago. The University's North Campus, with its multi-million dollar labor- atories spread over 800 acres, is not a completed project; construc- tion of the George Granger Brown Memorial Laboratories for fluids engineering, highway study and materials, metallurgy and struc- ture research are still under con-' struction. However, the aeronautical and automotive engineering laborator- ies, the Phoenix Memorial Labora- tory and the Cooley Building are completed, and within these the visitor will find a multitude of machines, instruments and class- rooms which serve to advance re-j search in the college of engineer- ing. When the project is completed, together with the facilities on the central campus, it will provide a training center for 9,000 engineers. Many of those now working on the campus live in apartments only a few hundred yards from the laboratories in which they study and contribute to research. There are 400 apartment units at the present time, and plans have been made to add 300 more in the future. A Printing Building and Central Services and Stack Building serve* the central campus as well as North Campus. They will also be opened to the public. The open house will be held from 2 until 4:30 p.m. with buses leaving Alumni Memorial Hall at 2, 3. and 4 p.m. and returning at 2:45, 3:45 and 4:45 p.m. PICTURE YOUR FUTURE IN THIS GROWING COMPANY S17 11 11 0 s i150 f1 51 t51 15 4 i 195A u- ANNUAL a - SALES " .; U' I ATOMIC RESEARCH-Materials that have been irradiated are labeled and stored for further study in the basement of the Phoenix Memorial Laboratory, which houses the Ford Nuclear Reactor, the largest in the college field.
