THE MCHIGAN DAILY sors Projects for Men and Women from AFTER MANY HOURS OF REHEARSAL AND WORK, LAST YEAR'S SOPHOMORE CLASS PRE- SENTED 'GOOD NEWS'. THE CLASS OF '59 PLANS TO STAGE 'GIRL CRAZY' LATE IN THE in 1956-57. It was born out of' the feeling that since the Junior class annually presented a play, Sophomores should give a Cabpr- et, type of entertainment often found in French taverns. Soon a traditional sophomore production, Cabaret, took over the second floor of the Michigan League providing dancing, card games, special booths and refresh- ments plus a floorshow twice each night. The night club atmosphere was modified in 1954 with the intro- duction of Soph Scandals. But, central committee members for 1955-56 Soph Scandals were not satisfied with an all-woman show. They met with men's organiza- tions, and developed an original coed show. For the first time last Novem- ber,-.men and women sophomores presented a coed musical, "Good News." General Chairman for this year, Adrienne Richards, '60, and Lawrence Velvel, '60, and their central committee have chosen 'Girl Crazy" as this year's play. Mass meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 24. .Jtunior Girls Play . . Exactly 53 years ago last March, half a dozen junior coeds pre- sented a playlet of take-offs on prominent members of the senior class, for senior women. The char- acter of JGP remained just an evening of amateur entertainment until 1912 when a second perform- ance was given for the rest of the women on campus. During these eight years, the show had drifted toward musical comedy. In 1915 cast members were permitted to dress in men's clothed for the first time. It was not until 1923, however, that men were allowed to attend any cam- pus performance of JGP. J. viuvo sell wovAUVI WU111C:j,1 w U1111m .
