Pan was conceived as a merry, ugly man with horns, a beard, tail and goat's feet. This character loved to frighten un- wary travelers, though all his myths deal with good deeds. Again Pan brings tidings of good fortune - Edward Kennedy (Duke) Ellington will play at Homecoming Dance, Saturday, Oct. 19 in the Intramural Build- ing, say dance co-chairmen Gerry Wise and Brian "-liggins. ',Familiar Figure Pan will become even more fa- miliar to students as he stands watch over the League entrance. In his hands Will be a huge bal- loon filled With helium gas. Sev- eral similar displays are located across campus in frequented loca- tions. Individual tickets for the dance go on sale tomorrow on the diag- onal. Block tickets are available to affiliated and unaffiliated men's housing units at the Stu- dent Activities Building. * At 58, Ellington, has written over a thousand jazz composi- tions, sold some 50 million records and has held the World's best known jazz band together for the unprecedented period of 30 years. The tournament, composed of 41 teams, will continue for four weeks of league playing and then enter the elimination period by November 1. The percentage period, that is teams who have wogi most games, will consist of seven teams, except in case of a tie, said Marie Hart- wig, faculty advisor. The organized playing this year is under the direction and leader- ship of Miss Hartwig and Student Manager, Jan Barber. This year, the tournamebt players have three courts, the ori- ginal two in Barbour and an add- ed court in Waterman Gym. This lets six teams play an hour.
