, MAY 6, 1958 THE MICHIGAN DAILY p U U Time Nerars For Cleanup In Grooming By NANCY VERMULLEN It's "spring housecleaning" time in grooming. Bright sunlight and skimpy sport attirehave a way of spot- lighting those flaws that were concealed beneath winter wools, so now's the time to take stock of yourself and brush up on your grooming etiquette. Count Calories Sleek bathing suits don't pro- vide the camouflage that your loose chemise does, so if .your shape is less than ship-shape - count calories! Skip the salt on your potatoes, the butter on your rolls. Try skimmed milk instead of whole, no-calorie sweeteners in- stead of sugar. '! As important as dieting is exer- cise. Dance clubs, gym classes and bike-riding all contribute to suppleness. So do '"touch -your- toes" routines, and the new ma- chines that tone specific muscles. The new shorter dresses and sandal shoes give emphasis to legs this season, and you don't have to be a Betty G r a ble to realize their importance to groom- ing. Pumice stones are excellent aids to coarse skin around heels and soles of feet, while rough spots and poor circulation respond to a good bath brush. Keep Nails Healthy A new array of glowing nail enamels, in gilded shades of gold and silver, calls attention to hands. Make sure yours are "hold- able" by keeping your nails heal- thy. Try an overcoat, applied daily, to prevent chipping. Elim- inate brittleness with a. moisture cream,'worked in gently around the cuticle with an orange stick. Back-worn hats have shifted emphasis to the front of the head, so make sure your hair is worthy Y' of its new attention. Next time try' a cream rinse after shampooing, and use a hair creme before set- ting. Frequent scalp massage is also invaluable to a top-notch top- knot. Soph Show Group To Hold Meeting Soph Show central committee will meet at 4:30 p.m; tomorrow in the Vandenberg Room of the League, a c c o r din g to Steven Schwartz, '61, and Ellen Lambert, '61, publicity co-chairmen. A production for next year's show will be chosen by the com- mittee at that time. AlLY CLASSI- _FIED ADS MICHIFISH-This year's Michifish production will feature color- ful costumes, new background effects, and unusual swim suits. "Rip Van Winkle," "Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn" and "Salem Witches" are a few of the stories to come to life in the performances. This is Michifish's 11th annual show. In addition to the show,.the club has performed throughout the year for ,people outside the University. In the past it has joined other schools in aquatic festivals and playdays. In order to become a member of Michifish, a woman is expect- ed to have almost perfect form in the side stroke, breast stroke, crawl and back crawl. She must also be able to perform the kip, back dolphin, surface dive in pike position and alternate ballet leg. Michif in, the junior organiza- tion, is composed of members who have demonstrated skills in syn- chronized swimming. This group is the preparatory club for Michi- fish, and in order to qualify for the senior club members must pass several varied swimming tests.
