THE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, APRIL K 1931 TUE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, APRIL ~4, 1q53 BEADS, SCARVES POPULAR: Accessories Accent Chemise Look Daily--seoirge Keeer POINTED TOES . . . with trim By ANN EICHLER Relaxed, loose and lazy is the keynote for accessories this spring, designed to accent the new che- mise look. This year's costume jewelry centers around beads, beads, and more beads. In many colors, shapes and lengths, they are just the right thing to wear with the new chemise. Bibs, lariats and ropes follow the fashion line and continue the new emphasis on color. Both solid color and mixed color strands are being worn this spring, as well as beads in pearl, crystal, stone and plastic. Pastels Dominate Pastels of all shades will com- pliment any match or contrasting outfit. In style this year are such colors as apricot, bone, tangerine, lime peel, willow green, shrimp pink and azure blue. The conven- tional red and clear and chalk white are also popular again this year. Long rope beads for chemises are being worn single strand or doubled. Chokers for more tailored wear come in varied lengths and colors. Bracelets on each hand or many on an arm are the fashion for short sleeve or s l e e v e l e s s dresses. Pins this year are found from the back of the dress to the top, of the glove. Earrings again in- clude the fashionable hoop and pendant styles, with the popular button earrings for the chemise. Scarves and Glovse Both scarves and gloves in gay7 and colorful prints, pastels, or polka dots can be found to goj Part for GALA EVENINGS AHEAD- :Z) r~ei eJ 4 a ' ~ A. down. Heel heights are no excep- tion to this rule. Although the chemise style is partially responsible for the low- ering of heel heights, the accep- tance of the lower heel is mainly due to its comfort. ,Since lower heeled shoes are now being made as stylish as those with three- inch heels, modern women who are constantly on their feet are reluctant to part with the com- fort that smaller heels afford. The toeless, heelless, shoeless shoes which.dominated last year's market are being rapidly de-. throned. This year the classic opera pump reigns supreme. How- ever, this basic shoe has under- gone many modifications. Pointed toes are becoming increasingly more acceptable and increasing- ly more pointed. In addition, there is a marked tendency toward a greater use of straps and other trimmings. Pumps are now daintily adorned with little dressmaker . touches such as pleatings, buckles and small perforations.' Pump Variations. T-straps are important modi- fications of the opera pump and, are featured on both dressy andI tailored shoes. Low instep ties1 also provide variations. This sil- houette gives a stretched look to the leg as the tie falls less than an inch above the throat of the shoe. Colors for late summer and fall shoes are definitely richer, warmer' and more subtle than last year's sombre shades. Because browns are abundant in the types of' leathers they comeiin and be- cause of their versatility, we must consider them as the first color family as to total volume. Red previously was nothing more than an emotional shade, and women bought red shoes with misgivings. Now, however, red has become a basic color. Dark Horse Color Blue is also a basic shade and always manages to retain its ap- peal. Green, however, has never before been considered as a par- ticularly important shade. This year, green is becoming more and more popular and could prove to be the dark horse color for late summer and fall. There are a number of interest- ing types of leathers that will be found in late summer and fall shoes. Popular leathers will be silken colored suedes, grained and polished textures, alligator, bold- ly printed furs, patent leathers and glove tanned l9athers. The most popular shades for summer will be, as usual, white and other pastel shades such as pink and pale blue. A new style which should gain in popularity during the summer months is the fabric shoe. These shoes appear in bright prints and multi-colored pin stripes. -Daily-George Keefer FINISHING TOUCH - Bright accessories complete any spring outfit.
