Michigras floats were in various
stages of completion yesterday,
most of them delayed slightly be-
cause of rain.
A few were entirely stuffed with
colored paper napkins and covered
with plastic covers by thinking-
ahead construction engineers.
At one house a huge tpaper
Inaiche rat ldudisassembled, re-
sembling a monstrous dinosauer
that had just been dynamited.

A head was at one end of the
lawn, 10 feet away, while a tre-
mendous mouth was being coin-
pleted nearby.
Predicted worker Susan Read,
'59: "We'll really be scurrying
around tomorrow. We have scads
of things to do." It was expected
that the float would be completed
on time however, since the con-.
fusion seemed to be well organized.
A few houses away a giant bull-
fight on wheels was rougled out,
and fast-working builders were
stuffing colored paper in the wire
holes. One who seemed to be in
charge, said the project would be
done tomorrow unless It rained
again.
"We will be finished in plenty
of time either way," le adds opti-
mistically.

Some houses, however, found
that their caution paid off,, for
their float parts remained in base-
ments, escaping the downpours of
the past days, and enabling them
to work around the clock disre-
garding the weather.

"Of course we'll have to work
doubly fast on Friday assembling

least we'll have dry parts," one

forward-thinking woman re-

Several converted "kleenex-stuf-
fers" were happy to withdraw to
the grass to discuss their projects
and disengage mud from their
shoes.
One worker reminded us of the
bicycle parade at 12:45 p.m. today
on the diagonal. "Everyone's in-
vited, so be there right after
lunch," she said. k

sponsored by the physical educa-
tion department from Monday
through May 8.
The pool will be open from 5:10
to 6:10 p.m. and from 7:15 to 9:15
p.m. Monday through Thursday
during the three weeks in which
the program will be carried out.
"The purpose of the campaign
is primarily to teach all women
how to swim and also to give the
Water Safety Instructor trainees
experience in teaching," Ruth W.
Harris of the physical education
department said.
The program will not be held in
class form. Women can come
whenever and as often as they
like. Two to four WSI trainees will
be on duty during the periods to
give instruction to beginners as
well as to those who simply want
to perfect their strokes.

Students are to report to the
life guard in charge who will as-
sign them to the proper groups.
"There may be opportunities for
diving, depending on the number
of people in the pool," Miss Harris
reported.
Women wanting extra help
from regular swimming classes
will also be able to get it during
these hours..
