Wendy Owen Memorial Fund.. * This year four charities will receive funds. The Wendy Owen Memorial Fund was created in 1952 following the death of Wendy Owen, a University student, who died as a result of the rare blood disease, aplastic anemia.. The fund is used for research on aplastic anemia and related disorders. The main cause of this rare blood disease has not yet been discovered, but the research made possible with the fund money will help to form a link in a chain that will have positive and far reach- ing effects in the field of blood' research, . the central committee CARPET STORE 207 E. Washington LINOLEUM STORE 205 N. Main A speech by Governor G. Men- nen Williams will be one of the highlights of the tenth annual conference of the National Associ- ation of Foreign Student Advisers which will' be held at the ttniver-" sity Saturday through May 1. NAFSA, which originated on the University campus 10 years ago, is a professional association of foreign student advisers, teachers of English as a foreign language,. Fulbright Program advisers and others professionally related with international educational ex- change. Three hundred representatives of colleges and universities, 30 representatives of foreign govern- ments, 40 representatives of the United States government and 75 representatives of private agencies will attend' this year's conference. To Study International Exchange "International Exchange in the Next Decade" will be discussed. James M. Davis, director of the University 'International Center and member of the NAFSA Con- ference Com'mittee, says that the purpose of the conference is to study the International education exchange .movement and look to- ward its future. The first day of the program will consist of committee meet- ings and organization, after which the regular sessions will begin. says. Retarded Children The Michigan Association for Retarded Children does not. re- ceive state funds for the operation of their day school. Since this particular organization serves only children of Washtenaw County, it is only fitting that Michigras make this one local 'contribution, the' committee says. The funds are donated to pro- vide equipment and transporta- tion necessary so that retarded children will have the chance to live normal lives as citizens of the community. Fresh Air Camp..- The University Fresh Air Camp Is known as a workshop in human behavior which seeks to heal the maimed minds and crippled emo- tions of the underprivileged chil- dren of metropolitan communi- ties, the committee says. For nearly three decades the alumni, faculty and students of the Uni- versity have supported the Fresh Air Camp. Each year, the University stu- dents contribute money which aids in meeting the camp's opera- tonal expenses. However, the chil- dren have many needs and the camp's waiting list is long. In or- der to help solve these problems, Michigras contributes its proceeds to the camp's facility expansion WHITE'S AUTO PAINT SHOP Bumping and Painting. South State NO 2-3350 )S21 )J140 1 ;007 This year's Michigras activities will be both televised and broad- cast. Friday and Saturday nights, "Michicast 1958" ,will be heard over local radio station WHRV. This is the third year a Michigras broadcast will be produced. Edward Cohen,' '60, is producer: and direptor of the project. "It's the next best thing to going to Michigras," Cohen says. At 3 p.m. Friday, a coverage of the parade will be broadcast from three points-at the parade's point of origin, in downtown Ann Arbor, in the crowd in front of the Union at the judges stand. Both Friday and Saturday eve- nings, from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m., a & broacast from. Yost Field House will cover all of the shows. It will also include on-the-spot interviews of various officials and spectators and will announce the winners of the contests which are' to take place. f On Friday evening, a film of the Michigras parade will appear on a Detroit television station. On Sunday, morning sessions. will discuss the problems of man- agement in international ,ex- change, while afternoon sessions will cover programming. The eve- ning will include a workshop on community services for interna- tional visitors, and a "welcome" dinner party with a talent show by University International stu- dents. Discussion Sections Planned The following day, vice-presi- dent James A. Lewis of the Inter- national Center will welcome the assembly and begin the opening plenary session. Such tppics as "Teaching English as a Foreign Language at Advanced Levels," "East-West Exchange in the Next Decade," and "Concepts of Hos- pitality in Different Ctiltures" will be discussed. While the men are in session, a special tour of the campus will be conducted for their wives. A visit to one of the nearby automotive plants and a luncheon at the Edison Institute at Green- field Village will take up Tuesday morning.
