THE MICHIGAN DAILY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1958 'M' Matmen Face Swim Trio Lost Rough Weekend By Ineligibility By AL JONES It's showdown time for the Michigan wrestling team. The Wolverine grapplers will attempt to continue their newly- formed winning streak this after- noon at Minnesota, but will enter action without one of their stars. Steve Zervas, Michigan heavy- weight who has dropped only one match in dual-meet competition this season, was declared ineli- gible yesterday due to academic difficulties. He will not be able to compete the rest of this season. Gains Replacement Coach Cliff Keen, however, has a substitute for Zervas. Sophomore Fred Olm, who was previously in- eligible, will be with the team this semester, and will initiate his 'M' wrestling career today against Minnesota. The team left yesterday morn- ing for Minneapolis, andafter the Gopher meet this afternoon, will journey to Ames, Ia., where they will meet Iowa State tomorrow afternoon. This weekend's competition will be much stronger than Purdue and Northwestern, the teams that the Wolverines trampled last Fri- day and Saturday to begin their present win streak. Previous to that time Keen's squad had been winless in dual-meets. Gophers Tough Minnesota, defending Confer- ence champion, rates again as one of the toughest Big Ten teams. They had a 20-meet dual-meet winning streak extending over three seasons, which was broken only last week by Iowa, 16-9. The last time that the Gophers and Wolverines met was in last spring's Conference meet, when Minnesota edged past Michigan, 55-54, to gain the title. Since that time both squads have lost many stars by graduation, and have undergone a period of rebuilding. Keen states that "Minnesota has many returnees and will be one of the toughest teams we face this year." Big Question The meet should be a thrilling one, and a very important one in determining which teams will be title contenders when the Big Ten meet rolls around. If the Wolver- ines can continue their winning ways past Minnesota, they will place themselves in a position of -definite title-contention. WIHL STANDINGS W L Pct. Pts.
