11, 1958 T'HE MCHIGAN DAILY U, 1958 TUE ~CUIGAN DAILY Students Plan Apothecary, Military Balls Apothecary Ball . . Prescription for weekend enjoy- ment . . the Apothecary Ball. Blaser-Johnson band from the Union Little Club will provide the music for the dance to be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday in the League Ballroom.' This all-campus ''semi-formal dance is sponsored by the Lambda Kappa Sigma and Phi Delta Chi pharmaceutical fraternities and the American Pharmaceutical As- sociation. This is the tenth year, that they have sponsored this dance. Tickets for the Apothecary' Ball may be purchased at the Pharma- cy office in the Chemistry Build- ing or at the door. Military Ball . "Destination Unknown" is the theme of this year's Military Ball which will be held Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight in the Union Ballroom. Because of the current emphasis on space exploration, "Destination Unknown" has been chosen as the theme. The ballroom will be light- ed by deep blue lights, and lumi- nous stars, planets and satellites will hang on the walls giving the illusion of a trip, through space. The Military Ball has been an annual event since 1918, except during World War II. It is pre- sented by ROTC students with the chairmanship rotating through the various branches of the serv- ice. Restricted to ROTC For the first time, this year's dance is restricted to ROTC stu- dents. It is felt that this will give the dance a true military atmos- phere and prepare the future offi- cers' for the social obligations which they will encounter when becoming officers. Warney Ruhl's band, featuring songstress Betty Brown, will pro-, vide the music for the second con- secutive year. During intermission, the Pershing Rifle Drill Team, composed of ROTC cadets, will entertain. Having won many regional con- tests they are rated as one of 'the tap drill units in this region. One of the many Michigras committees is that of decorations. The duties of this committee, which is headed by David Beste, '60E, and Joan Machalski, '60A&D, are to decorate the fieldhouse and build a prize booth. In Yost Field House, where Michigras is held, the booths of the various housing units are given specific locations. To add even greater sparkle to the week- end, however, decorations com- mittee moves in to provide the frosting. Decorate in Magenta This year's decorations are to be done in the Michigras colors, chartreuse and, magenta, accented by black and white. The mood of the decorations is to be modern, and they will cover the walls above the-booths at the end of the field- house. The special project of the deco- rations committee is to construct a circular prizes booth, which is 56 feet in height and stands in the center of the fieldhouse.
