In all, 16 students were arrest- ed ,including the president and international vice-president, the president and treasurer of the Paris section, the president and secretary-general of the Grenoble section, and others. Aoufi, president of the Paris section, was arrested in the Cite Universaire, which has tradition- ally been considered a place of sanctuary in France. Immediately following the ar- rests, the National Union of French Students protested to the government. The reason given by the French government for the dissolution of the Union was an alleged "viola- tion of the external security of the State." This latest action of arrest and dissolution followed a series of arrests of Algerian student lead- ers. The last incident, the arrest of the' Algerian Union General Secretary in November, brought strong protests from many Na- tional Unions of Students. He has since been held in a military prison near Algiers without trial or legal advice. HEART TREATMENT: 'U' Medical Center Uses Catheterization Process At the University Medical Cen- ter a catheter, a small plastic tube which is inserted in a forearm vein, pushed up past the shoulder and down into the heart, is help- ing to save the lives of many chil- dren whose hearts have not de- veloped normally. While such children would have had little' chance to lead normal lives five years ago, today rapid advances are being made to save these lives by opening the heart and correcting the defects. Catheterization is a complicat- ed process, carried out at the Uni- versity by a highly trained team of pediatricians, cardiologists, heart surgeons, radiologists, nurses and technicians. Almost every child who may, need corrective heart surgery undergoes the procedure in a spe- cially equipped room at University Hospital. This "angiographic unit" has been developed as part of the University's human resources re- search and service program which has been supported by legislative funds for research in human re- sources for the past two years. The process is painless to the child, who needs only a local anesthetic in the arm, and is awake and entertained by a stu- dent nurse while the end of the catheter is directed into his heart with the aid of a fluoroscope. Draft Head Warns Men To Register Many young men are forgetting to register on their 18th birthday as required by the current draft law, according to Col. Arthur A. Holmes, State Director of Selec- tive Service. Every male citizen and most male aliens are required to regis- ter by the fifth day following their 18th birthday. However, E. Jack Petoskey of the Office of Registration and Records stressed, aliens who entered the country under a student visa are not re- quired to register with the draft board. Registration can be accom- plished at any local board in the area where the registrant may be on his 18th birthday. I. I Yours for Pennies!
