' She recently became the first woman engineering student at thes University to win an industrial scholarship-and no meager one at that. International Nickel Co.- has awarded her $500 for the year,t renewable as long as she attends the University, if her present 3.63l average stays above a 2.5. Nancy, a freshman in chemicalx metallurgy, entered the college ofi engineering for a unique reason- she thought it would be easier than "Lit School." She hastens to ex-- plain, "This is because of my interests-more in the application of scientific principles than in theory." Nancy reads avidly, and likes to discuss literature and the prob- lems of censorship. She is well versed in primitive cultures, and many of her high-school English papers dealt with anthropology. Nancy is the third in her family to attend the University. Nancy, a vivacious 18-year-old, is as familiar with the implements of homemaking as she is with her slide rule. She learned to cook two years ago, and she makes many of her own clothes. Currently she is working on a frothy blue chiffon formal. Scholastically she is also a hard worker. She says the fact that she is a girl gets her no special con- cessions from processors or other students. "In fact, the fellows often ask me for advice," she says. "It's funny," she adds, "I thought boys would look down on me, and think that I enrolled in Engine School to find a man. Instead, they seem to respect a girl who gets at least passing marks. In her speech class, in which she was the only woman, she added the feminine element on two occa- sions-in a rather humorous way. In her "demonstration" speech, she showed the mechanics of ap- plying a facial mudpack, and later in the semester she instructed the men on "How to Kiss a Girl Good- night." - -- - aWEWANT TO WISH YOU W t i d ; ui fO tisOCOI~ y o Y f/2!* 0 o wilbe given on this occasion by 0 ALLENEL RESTAURANT "Featuring Excellent Food at Moderate Prices" c 00 HOTEL ALLENEL Phone NO 3-4241 126 East Huron , f-> f<- <-> )<->0<->-> c->c< > o<-><=>0 I Group of car coats & rain or shine coats, $1498 15 rayon suits ....................
