Carrying Eddie Arcaro to a rec- cord-stretching sixth victory, Bold Ruler completed the mile and three-sixteenths in 1:56 1-5. A crowd of 32,856 saw Bold Ruler overtake front-running Fed- eral Hill shortly after the start and stay ahead. The victory dashed Calumet Farm's hope of winning a sixth Preakness and setting up Iron Liege as a possible triple crown winner. Bold Ruler, who had beaten Iron Liege three times before fin- ishing fourth to him in the Derby two weeks ago, was the fourth Preakness victory for 82-year-old Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons.
