Tonight it will be their privilege to play host to the reigning Big Ten and NCAA Gymnastics nChamps, the thus far unbeaten 11- lini. The meet. will take place at the Sports Building at 8 p.m. to- night. I-D cards will provide ad- mission for all students. Illinois has held the Big .Ten championship for the past seven seasons, and added the national title last winter. Nevertheless, the Wolverines don't have the usual dread of the 4 fighting Illini. Actually, it is Michigan which has the recordto defend. Last winter when the two * squads met, it was Michigan who emerged victorious, with a 57-55 Striumph. Since that time Michigan has built up an 11-straight winning streak, going. undefeated in dual- meet competition. During this span Loken's boys placed second to the revenge-hungry Illinois team in the 1956 Conference Meet. Look for 12th Win Therefore, one might well con- sider tonight's meet as a grudge battle for both teams. lyichigan is hoping for a 12th straight dual- meet victory, Illinois is seeking revenge for their only blemish during the 1955-56 season, and both squads are undefeated this year, and striving for a perfect season. This meet might take on the aspects of a two-man battle. Both teams boast a fine Olympic gym- nast on their rosters. The Wol- verine, of course, is the Canadian standout Ed Gagnier. This will be Gagnier's first meet this season for Michigan, since his trip to Mel- bourne kept him out of school last semester. The Illinois gymnast who Gag- vier last saw in Australia is soph- omore Abbie Grossfield. The two will meet tonight in the high bars, Sparallel bars, and- free exercise Sevents. Top Illini Other top Illini are Don Tonry, Big Ten and NCAA all-around champion, and tumblers Frank Hailan and Mike Karon. Wolver- ne sophomore Jim Hayslett, a sparkling performer so far this year, will be called on for the dif- ficult task of opposing Tonry in the all-around event. Looming as a second challenge; is pa 4 p.m. meet with Indiana to- morrow afternoon. Exhausted as the Wolverines may be after Il- linois, they will have to be on their toes again. Indiana is no pushover in Big Ten gym circles, having defeated Northwestern and Minnesota in much the same man- ner as Michigan did. The Wolverines are all in top shape according to Loken, except for the two co-captains. Nick Wiese is bothered by a heel bruise, while Wayne Warren is still suf- fering a back ailment. However, they will both be in action this weekend. .. .x ~ ~ .*...v . ... .. v.. ...'..... v.;. ... . . . ...... . . .. ....... *..} 4.,: REPAIREDE } f 314 anSot Stae Stree k:r t lf '' ,: N ;; Ci Only Dietzgen Slide Rules have these great features Professional engineers say Dietzgen's new slide rules embody the greatest advances in design in more than a quarter century.
