Coeds will display their aquatic talents and tricks in "A Whale of a Tale" to be presented by Michi- fish, women's swimming group, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28. The theme is based on a "bop version of Grimm's Fairy Tales." Each number will portray a story from the collection. "Little Red and the Riding Hoods," a comedy skit featuring John Murphy, Michigan swimming team diver, Ted Reissing, back stroker, and members of Michifish, will highlight the show. Divers To Perform The audience will also witness a comedy diving act presented by members of the Michigan swim- ming team. Michifins, preparatory g r o u p for Michifish, will make their ap- pearance for the first time in the annual show to demonstrate their skills in the art of synchronized swimming. They will participate in an act of their own and in the finale. Michifish made its first official appearance about ten years ago and has produced a show every year since then. Originally, coeds : swam as part of the Union Open House spring program. This is their fourth annual show in the Women's Pool. Sponsor Playdays The swimming group's activities are performances each year for people outside the University. They have sponsored several playdays and, two years ago, an aquatic festival. Michifish joins with several other colleges each year in play- days. They also visit swimming shows to get new ideas. Members of the organization are required to have almost perfect form in the crawl, back crawl, breast stroke and side stroke. They must be able to perform the back dolphin, kip, surface dives in pike position and alternate ballet legs. Tryouts held at the beginning of the year are open to all coeds. Women who wish training in syn- chronized swimming skills may join Michifins and improve their skills. Senate Hears Coeds' Bid For Positions Yesterday the candidates for junior. members of the Interview- ing and Nominating Committee gave their platforms and were voted upon at the meeting of the Senate, the legislative body of the League. The six women running for the three available junior positions are Lynn Allie, Gayle Burns, Jennie Morgan, Mary Morris, Lenore Sar- raf and Marsha Woughter. In her speech Miss Allie stated that there should be no set type of person for any job. Petition Important Miss Burns stressed - the im- portance of the petition. She be- lieves that. the interview should be used to discover the personality of the petitioner, not to test her knowledge of the committee. The third candidate, Miss Mor- gan, feft that this committee should judge soundly and impar- tially, considering primarily the woman and her interest in thel job for which she was petitioning. Miss Morris stressed publicity as the main problem of the Inter- viewing and Nominating Com- mittee. Interest Needed Miss Sarraff said that interest should be stimulated in petition- ing and that more personal con- tact should be used in getting women to petition. In presenting her opinions, Miss Woughter listed three important areas: personal contact through interviews, making unbiased deci- sions in picking people for posi- tions, and initiating more interest through enthusiastic publicity. This year the voting system has changed. In the past these women had been voted upon by all coeds on campus. This year after hear- ing these speeches, Senate mem- bers voted on the women. First Impressions "Since these women will be working in a situation where first impressions are important this is a change for the better," said Sue Arnold, president of the League. Others feel that since these women are undercassmen and are often not known, the opinion of Senate would be more valid and not biased on heresay A third reason for the change is the emphasis that it will place on the senior positions of the League.
