Illinois' snappy blue-shirted, white-scarfed C Company edged Michigan by four points to win first place in the hair-splitting I and DePaul's white-capped I Com- IDR event. Murray State College of Kentucky, the only other team pany placed third. In individual IDR competition entered in IDR competition, did where each school entered a mini- not place. Six schools in the Third Regi- ment competed for the first place trophy in Exhibition drill. Purdue's machinelike E company placed first, Michigan State University's 20 man L Company took second, mum of five men, and the flick of an eyelash was enough to retire a man, Michigan's J. P. Dumbrow- ski, '60E, and H. B. Love, '59E, placed third and fourth respec- tively. Illinois' Al Combs, 2nd Lt. Per- shing Rifles, placed first out of the 150 men entered in the event. "I don't know how I did it" he commented, "but I enjoyed com- peting with these other men." Scoring was done on the basis of points. From "present arms" to "eyes right," a protruding thumb, a head out of line, or the slip of of a rifle was enough to lose valuable points.
