The Huskies are directed py an ex-Wolverine netminder, a first- year man, John. MacInnes, who was a letter-winner for the Blue during the 1945-46 and 1949-50 campaigns. Last night's was. a one-point match in WIHL play, with the two Michigan sextets meeting up here' again this evening in the secmnd set-to of the crucial two- game series.. If the Wolverines triumph again tonight, the Huskies will have a chance. for revenge in Ann; Arbor In the final two games of the sea- son on March\8 and 9. Today the Wolverines will face the Northwestern squad as they try for two in a row. Last year the matmen were vic- torious over the Wildcats by a 14- 7 score. However Michigan didn't accept an added 15 points when Northwestern f o r f e i t e d three matches. Northwestern has defeated Wis- consin and Notre Dame in dual meets this season but finished last in a quadrangular meet with Pur- due, Michigan State, and Minne- sota. Besides wins by Wiese in the free event, flying rings, :and, tumbling, the Wolverines added triumphs by Jim Hayslett on the parallel bars, and Ed Cole on the trampoline. In addition the team took second in six events and four thirds. They overpowered the Badgers on the trampoline and parallel .bars by taking the first three places. Coach Newt Loken said that the Wolverine trampoline team was exceptional. "It was not until we came off the parallel bars with our sweep, and only two events remaining, however, that the vic- tory was clinched." Concerning tonight's match with Minnesota, Coach Loken still ex- presses concern that the long trip may hurt the squad. The scoring balance may be further hurt by the possible absence of co-captain Wayne Warren who injured his back slightly. He finished his events but had some stiffness af- terwards. 130-Deppe (M) Shook (I), 6-4 decisioned 137-Murray (M) decisioned Morrison (I), 10-2 147-Komorowski (I) decisioned Hansady (M), 11-3 157-Gallo (I) decisioned Weber (M), 7-1 167-Lutomski (M) pinned Re- deker (I), 7:59 177-Marchello (M) decisioned Killian (I), 9-4 Hvy.-O'Brien (M) nahan (I), 8:48 pinned Car- Michigan Swimmers Face ;Purdue Today at Lafayette The Wolverine swimming squads will open its Big Ten dual meet campaign this afternoon when it clashes with Purdue in the con- fines of the Boilermakers' swim- ming pool. Steinmetz placed fourth : in the 100-yd. backstroke and sixth in the 200-yd. backstroke. Eversman, a native of Grosse Pointe, Michi- gan, placed fifth in the 100-yd. backstroke. Three other holdover senior ma- jor lettermen, Bill Bush, Bruce Myles and Don Klingler teamed up with g r a d u a t e d All-American George McElligott, on the free style relay team that took sixth in the Big Ten title meet. In the back stroke, where Stein- metz and Eversman are proven producers, the main support will be provided 'by junior Don Raider. Veteran Fred Gotha will' re- ceive help in diving from promis- ing sophomore Dick Bachli, a for- mer Illinois high school champion who won the Central A.A.U. cham- pionship last summer. Top Sophomore Another top sophomore, Bill Watt, who set a new freshman record for the 200-yd. breaststroke last year, is expected to provide added point strength in an event where senior Leon Perkinson is the only holdover. Bush, Klingler, and Myles are expected to be the mainstays of the sprint delegation. In the distance events, Purdue will be weak, having to call upon inexperienced Dick Green and Dave Everhart along with junior reserve Ted Metz. Wolverine Cagers Host NU Tonight Michigan will go after its sec- ond victory in three Conference basketball games tonight when it meets Northwestern University at Yost Field House at 8 p.m. Tonight's contest will mark the Wolverines' first home game of the Big Ten season. On Monday night, Coach Bill Perigo's quintet will perform for the home fans once again against the University of Wisconsin's basketball squad. Currently, the Wildcats have a 5-4 record for the season, in- cluding their 75-54 victory over Wisconsin, their lone Big Ten game. Northwestern Coach W al d o Fisher will probably start four sophomores and a senior. Joe Ruklick, a 6'9" sophomore center tops the Wildcat scorers with an 18 point average. Phil Warren, 6'5" forward who has averaged 17.2 points per game for the season, veteran Dick Mast, 6'0" guard, Nick Mantis, 6'3" guard, and Dick Johnson, 6'0" guard, will probably make up the Northwestern starting unit. The Wolverines' record stands at 6-4 for the season, including their two Conference tilts-a loss at Indiana and a victory at Michi- gan State.
