Prof. Irving S. Wright, of the clinical medicine department at Cornell University's Medical Col- lege, reports. The Cornell professor, who is also past-president of American Heart Association, recently re- turned from a visit to Russia. Prof. Wright reports there are numerous outstanding Russian physicians and scientists, but they are handicapped by a lack of modern equipment. He claims the Russians are pro- vided with an excellent translation system which makes all significant foreign literature available to them shortly after publication. Prof. White reports interesting investigations, particularly in the fields of arterial sclerosis, high blood pressure, preservation of blood, blood substitutes for trans- fusion purposes and certain types of surgical procedures, are now being conducted by Russian phy- sicians. Also, the Soviet doctors are carrying out an extensive program in health education for the pub- lic-a program which is varied ac- cording to the degree of modern civilization existing in different PI 1956-57 Lecture Course Presents IVY BAKER PRIEST Treasurer of the United States "OUR MONETARY SYSTEM" Tues., Nov. 13 - 8:30 P.M. Davis has written a letter to all former hosts saying: "Each year many of us share our Thanksgiving with students from abroad. This distinctively American holiday, with its empha- sis upon good fellowship and out- going friendliness, can be espec- ially significant if we invite visit- ors from other lands into our fam-; ily circles. "The student can find in such an experience the warmth of our hospitality and can take part in a unique American festival. Some of our 1300 foreign students ar- rived here this fall. For these new- comers, your invitation may be the first introduction into a fam- ily in this country." Those interested are asked to call the International center of- fices, NO 2-4431, extension 358. Begin Local Voting Study Tomorrow Students in the psychology and journalism departments will begin a survey in Ann Arbor tomorrow to determine the attitudes of voters here and the means by which the electorate gathered in- formation about candidates and parties in the Nov. 6 election. Approximately 300 Ann Arbor residents will be interviewed in the survey which is expected to end before Thanksgiving. Questions to be asked include a number of those which the Uni- versity's Survey Research Center has used in its nationwide survey studies of voter attitudes toward candidates and parties. A section concerning newspapers, radio, television and magazines has been added to provide infor- mation on the influence of those media.
