By PETE MARUDAS By crushing Alpha Delta Phi, 21-0, Lambda Chi Alpha, yester- day, gained the semi-finals of the social fraternity 'A' football first place playoffs. Paced by Fran LeMire, All I-M tailback, Lambda Chi was never threatened by the outplayed Al- pha Delt team. Midway in the first half, LeMire intercepted Joe McEvoy's pass at midfield. Then after driving down to the Alpha Delt six-yd. line, LeMire flipped a short pass to Jerry Merritt for the touchdown. LeMire passed to Dick Good for the extra point. LeMire Keeps Firing Early in the second half Mike McMichaels intercepted an Alpha Delt pass At midfield to start an- other Lambda Chi drive which culminated in a touchdown pass from LeMire to McMichaels. Le- Mire threw to Bill Larson for the extra point. To end the scoring, Merritt picked off another loose Alpha Delt pass on the Lambda Chi 20- yd. line. The Lambda Chi's quick- ly converted the interception into a score as LeMire directed anoth- er drive climaxed by a three-yd. pass from LeMire to Merritt. Good tallied his second extra point on another LeMire pass. In professional fraternity foot- ball, powerful Nu~ Sigma Nu clinched a first place playoff spot by overwhelming Tau Epsilon Rho, 41-0. Led by the deadly passing Away They Go In line with regular Daily policy, Senior Sports Editors Dave Grey, Dick Cramer and Steve Heilpern leave today for Iowa City, Ia., to bring our readers first hand coverage of tomorrow's Michigan - Iowa game, of Froncie Gutman and the phe nomenal pass catching of Ted Dodenhoff, the Nu Sigs were nev- er in trouble. The first time theNu Sigs got hold of the ball they scored on a pass from Gutman to Doden- hoff. Again in the half Gutman hit Dodenhoff with an on' target pass foranother touchdown. Do- denhoff added both extra points. To end the scoring in the first half, Gutman sailed a 30-yd. aerial to Brad Patten for six more points. After kicking off to Tau Epsi- lon to start the second half, the Nu Sigs received the ball on downs. Once more the Gutman to Dodenhoff combination struck paydirt on a ten yd. pass play. The spirited Tau Epsilons fought hard but they could not stop the methodical workmanship of the Nu Sigs. Gutman, former Purdue star, again figured in the scoring by throwing for two more touchdowns. He hit Wayne Whit- taker from 20 yards out and John Colwell from the same distance. Feature Close Games In other professional fraternity games, Alpha Chi Sigma nipped Phi Alpha Kappa, 6-0, on a touch- down pass play from Jack Scruggs to Bob Mills. In two scoreless ties which went overtime, Law Club defeated Al- pha Kappa Kappa 1-0, and Delta Sigma Phi edged Phi Chi by the same score. Delt Sig's Chuck iSmith flipped a Inog pass to Chuck Cadwell for the game win- ning yardage. The visitors scored first in the game, but lack of depth told on the squad in the late stages and the Spartans pushed in the equal- izer and then forged ahead to stay. Pacing the Michigan team this year are Juanito Co and Bob Bar- nett. Co, a 110 lb. speedster from the Philippines, holds down the regular center-forward berth on the squad. Barnett, from Scotland, is noted for his ball handling skill and de- fensive play. He is the team's right halfback. After the Kalamazoo game, Michigan will play Eastern Michi- gan College here next Saturday. I ra -. IN U Also available at our Ypsilant Store - The Sport Shop 104-06 W.
