A grant of $38,000 from National Institute of Mental Health of the U.S. Public Health Service will finance the study. It will cover children aged 8-18. Study will include children from different neighborhoods and fam- ily backgrounds. It will involve those who are outstandingly well adjusted and creative and those who are maladjusted and behaving in ways that create problems. L o c a1 school officials have agreed to cooperate with the team by providing scholastic and edu- cational records, as well as inter- views and tests for those involved. Researchers hope to develop new indices for identifying those soc- ial situations that contribute to adjustment and maladjustment. Other objectives of research in- clude development of systematic means of studying peer associa- tions of young children and ado- lescents, including how these fit in with socially ,approved stand- ards of conduct. Means of classifying problem be- havior and problem situations in terms of their meaning for the child and comunity will also be analyzed by the University group. ti , . .x i {' , ' r Michigan Chess Club Meeting, p.m. Tuesday, Union. 7:30 T T==t"- I I. 7 t ..
