Hildebrand of Holland, Michigan announce the engagement of their daughter, Salle, to Wilford L. Lrson, Jr., son of the Wilford L. Larsons of Col- umbus, Mississippi. Miss Hildebrand is a senior in music education and is president of Jordan Hall. Mr. Larson is a senior in the school of Industrial Engineering and is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. The couple plans to be married June 22, 1957 in Holland, Michi-' gan. Goldstein-Star Gail S. Goldstein's engagementt to Lawrence S. Star, son of Mrs. Harry Star of New York City, is announced by her mother, Mrs. Raymond W. Goldstein of Canan- daigua, New York. Miss Goldstein is a senior in the School of Literature and is a mem-' ber of Scroll, besides being per- sonnel director of The Daily and president of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. Mr. Star is a senior at Cornell University and is a member of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity there. An early summer wedding is planned by the couple. Alexander of Charlotte, North Carolina, was married Saturday, Sept-,nber 1st, to Ensign Warren Pritchett Chase, sotr of 'Dr. and Mrs. William Warren Chase of Ann Arbor. Dr. Chase is a profes- sor at the University. The Rev. Howard N. Steward Jr. performed the ceremony at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, "The' Little Church in the Gar- den", in Long Beach, Calif. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The matron of hcncr was Mrs. Uhlman S. Alexander Jr., sister- in-law of the bride, of Los Angeles, California. Miss Marian Russell of Oswego, New York, was the maid of honor and Mrs. Edwin Heikken- en of Boise, Idaho, sister of the groom, served as bridesmaid. All Navy Men The best man was Ensign Don- ald E. Knepper and Ensign Kay D. Woolman, Ensign David Boslaugh, Lt. (g) Fred Johnson and Lt. (g) James Artimage were, ushers. They are all of Long Beach, Calif- ornia. The wedding was a military ceremony in Navy tradition. The couple cut the wedding cake with Ensign Pritchett's sword, and they left the church under an arch of the ushers' swords. Union Plans. Two Dances Two dances are on the Union social agenda for the weekend, scheduled for Friday and Satur- day evenings. Little Club The first "Little Club" of the semester will be presented from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday in the snack bar of the. Union. Informal dress will be worn to the affair. No admission will be charged. Checkered table-cloths and a candle-lit atmosphere will prevail at this weekly dance. Saturday Night Dance. Jim Servis and his band will play for the Union dance which will be presented from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday in the Union Ball- room. The Servis band is replacing Red Johnson and his band, who will be returning to play the eve- ning of the Michigan State Uni- versity game. Servis specializes in danceable music, with enough specialty num- bers added to entertain the crowd. The eight-piece group includes a piano, base, drums, trombone, trumpet and three saxophones. Featured members of the band are John Alexander on the. trum- pet; Fred Becker, saxophone; Jon Paterson, piano accompanist for the Men's Glee Club and the band leader, Jim Servis on the drums. Record Dances Other regular dances at the Union will be record dances to be presented every Sunday evening in the Terrace Room of the Union. Casual dress will be worn to these weekly informal events. Mademoiselle, a magazine for women, is now accepting applica- tions from undergraduate women, for membership in its 1956/57 Col- lege Board. The college board contest offers women students a chance at win- ning one of the twenty guest edi- torships. Winners are privileged to work for a month on the staff of Mademoiselle. Assignments give college board members the opportunity to write features about life on their cam- pus; to submit art work and fash- ion as well as' feature, fiction or promotion ideas for possible use in the magazine. Discover Abilities The top twenty editors will be brought to New York City next June to help write, editand illus- trate the. August college issue. They will be paid a regular salary for their month's work including round-trip transportation to New York. While in New York, each Guest Editor takes part in a full calen- dar of activities. She interviews a celebrity in her chosen field, visits newspaper offices, fashion workrooms, stores and advertising agencies besides working daily with the Mademoiselle Editor to whom she is assigned. Join Staff The twenty guest editors are of- fered help in obtaining positions in their chosen fields and each year several join Mademoiselle's own staff. November 30 is the deadline for applying for College Board Mem- bership. In order to qualify one must write a 1500 word critique of the editorial section in Made- moiselle's August 1956 College is- sue or a later issue if the August issue - cannot be obtained. A good critique will tell some- thing about one's attitudes, in- terests, and how she expresses herself. An applicant should give her overall likes and dislikes, sug- gested changes and additions, and then concentrate on her interests, fashions, fiction, or illustrations. Successful candidates will be notified of acceptance on the col- lege board before Christmas and the first assignment will appear in Mademoiselle's January issue. At this time those inter- ested will decide the regular time for their meeting and discuss pos- sible projects which they inight carry out. Last year the Golf Club spon- sored a clinic at the University course with Betty Jameson and Mary Lena Faulk, professional women golfers, giving deionstra- tions and instructions. Instruction will be offered once a week by the co-advisors, Mrs. and Miss Barbara Rotvig, all from the Women's Physical Education Department. Also scheduled for the year are intra-team matches and matches with other schools. Virginia O'Connor, manager of the club, says that coeds must have previous experience to join and have their own clubs. "Any woman on the, campus who plays at the University course may turn in the scores of her first nine holes for a chance to become a member of the women's golf team," Miss O'Connor added.
