The final tally came at 16:06 when FacFarland passed the puck in front of the net whereupon Maxwell blasted it in. Meanwhile ensuing events and high tempers started a scramble at the blue line. Dunnigan who was following the play collided fiercely with Denver's Larry John. MacFarland skated over after the score to pull John off Dunnigan and became engaged in the fight. What followed was a miniature battle royale with a triple penalty as the result. Dunnigan and John each drew major misconduct pen- alties of five minutes which ef- fectively eliminated them from the remainder of the contest, while With everyone else "spruced up" for the Season, be sure you, too are in a festive mood with some- thing new and colorful in ties or shirts for the holidays, from Ernie Kuohn's. "When these boys want to play hockey, they can really get out there and play," he ex6laimed. "This is what we've been waiting for." "Howes played beautiful hockey," he added, in praising the junior goalie's' nany brilliant saves. Neil McDonald, who sat out the game with a wrenched knee, will return after vacation. With three weeks to rest up before their next encounter, a January 6 battle, at Michigan State, the Wolverines should be able to recover from all their in- juries and return to full strength as they head into the mnain stretch of the season. Season's Greetings to All?? Look well-groomed for those Holiday Occasions The Dascola Barbers Near Michigan Theatre Takes I-M Swim Title In a close meet, Williams House defeated Huber House, 31-26, last night, to capture the Residence Halls swimming championship and the second swimming title in Williams history. The score was close throughout the meet, with the outcome only certain after Mike Camras and Ron Deem had placed first and second in the 25-yard freestyle race. This enabled Williams to forge toa 28-20 lead with only the medley relay to go. Williams Cops Relay Williams got off to a lead in the first event with Deem, Mike Rubin, Camras and Bob Denison combining to cop the 100-yard relay race. Al McKenzie took an important first for Williams in the breast- stroke to offset seconds and thirds by Huber's Jim Schellenberg and Gene Correll. Williams' Bob Denison edged Huber's Pete Kelley to take the 50-yard free style event. Huber Pulls Close Huber House pulled to within one point of Williams when Dick Osius and Clark Bassett placed first and second in the backstroke. The combination of Bassett, Schellenberg, and Kalember won the final event for Huber, the medley relay, but it wasn't enough to surmount the lead that Williams had built up. Williams By TED JOSEPH Many downhearted blue-jerseyed men walked into the Michigan dressing room in Grand Forks last Saturday night, but few were more disappointed than the man wear- ing the numeral "3" across his back. For Bob Schiller, stellar defense- man, it was even more disappoint- ing- -- it shattered his hopes of having the hockey team go un- defeated this year. "North Dakota, with seven games under its belt, was just in better condition than we were. With a little more practice, there is no telling how far we may go," added Schiller. Sidelined By Injury Now in his second year with the varsity, Schiller suffered a serious injury in last season's Montreal game. It was at a ,time when the Wolverines needed him most. A Carabin player accidentally smashed his skate in Schiller's mouth, opening a gash requiring 35 stitches to close. The severe impact of the collision also splin- tered his cheek bone. It looked as if Schiller was go- ing o be out of action for a long time, but he could not be denied- he just would not let his skates hang idle. After only three weeks of "leis- ure," he came back with sparkling stick-play to help lead Michigan to its NCAA crown last March. NHL SCORE Chicago 4, New York 1 "It was the biggest thrill of my life," said the prematurely gray- haired junior, a native of Windsor. Ontario. Started Early An interesting sidelight into the life of Schiller is that he proudly belongs to a family of nine boys and seven girls. It was from :hese brothers that he learned how to skate at the early age of four. When he was 12, Schiller had already broken into organized hockey. Schiller attended both Assump- tion in Windisor and St. Michaels in Toronto for his high-school edu- cation. He did not limit his ath- letics to hockey as he was a' top Track Meet Don Canham's track team will stage an intrasquadmeet' tonight at Yost Field House. This will be the first opportun- ity that the public has had to see the track men in action. player in football and baseball. Oddly enough, teammates Neil and Mike Buchanan were also his hockey teammates at St. Michaels. 'Great on Power Plays' Coach Vic Heyliger claims, "that Schiller has a lot of natural abili- ty, one of the best shots in the country and is great on power plays. Once he overcomes the habit of getting out of position when he goes after the pucl, he will be one of collegiate hockey's finest players." --Daily-Dick Gaskill ED SWITZER (r.) and Neil Buchanan (third from right) battle with Denver's Blair Livingstone for control of the puck in center ice midway through the first period of last night's game which Michigan won, 6-2.
