THE MICHIGAN DAILY PLANT DEPARTMENT: Parking Lots, Motor Pool Service 'U' I By KEITH DeVRIES A shortcut between North Uni- versity and the women's dorms is provided by a whole series of often close-to-deserted parking lots be- hind the NROTC and plant de- partment buildings. Although it might not be sus- pected by the daytime walker the University cars, trucks, and buses in the lots are, by the end of the day, joined by enough vehicles to fill all the parking area. The more than 100 University vehicles are included in one motor pool which is centered here and managed by the plant department. Garage Crowded The pool's garage is always crowded regardless of the time. Numerous cars parked in front await the washing required before they can be dispatched or the complete overhaul given them every 2,000 miles. If any cars have motor trouble the mechanics in the spare-tire lined garage are capable of mak- ing all necessary repairs. During good traveling condi- tions the pool has days when all of its 80 automobiles are in , but following storms at this time of year, has to meet far fewer re-1 quests for cars. WUERTH 1 ENDING TODAY ''To Host Education Conference The University will host 225 presidents, deans, . and faculty members of Michigan colleges Dec, 6 and 7. Educators from all over the state will be here for the ninth annual Conference on Higher Edu- cation, the subject of which is "The Dual System of Higher Edu- cation-PUblic and Private." University President Harlan H. Hatcher will speak at a Tuesday meeting on "Backgrounds of the Dual System in Michigan." Regis- tration begins a half hour before this speech. Other events on the Conference agenda include a reception at Pres- ident and Mrs. Hatcher's home, a panel discussion, a dinner meet- ing, and a symposium. The parking lot for the fleets of University cars/ and trucks Similarly the 15 buses in the pool are put to more use in bet- ter weather by such groups as science classes for field trips, surveying classes for transporta- tion to North Campus and NROTC for lifts to drill grounds at Ferry Field. Requests for the use of ve- hicles have to be placed through University departments, not in- dividuals. Bills for their use are similarly paid into the pool by de- partments. Cars in the pool are commonly used in meeting and transporting important University officials. In another important function they help link the University with its extension services by providing an easy way for faculty members to travel to school branches in Flint and Grand Rapids. .Diabetes Story On TV Hour One of the greatest successes in the history of medicine will be reviewed on the opening portion Df the University of Michigan Tele- vision Hour at 10 a.m. today (Sun- day, Dec. 4) on WWJ-TV. The control of diabetes will be demonstrated by Dr. Holbrooke Seltzer of the department of en- docrinology. Following a discussion of symp- toms, diagnosis, and diet, an ac- tual insulin injection will be staged to show how diabetics learn and practice the technique of self- injection. Host for the Medical series is Dr. Richard Judge. The latter half of the "TV- Hour" will present Revolutionary songs and New England psalms as examples of Early American music, sung by a group of Michigan Sing- ers dressed in authentic contempo- rary costumes. Prof. A. P. Britton of the music school will be the special guest of the regular host, Prof. Howard Peckham, director of the William L.
