In a meeting of this year's let- termen yesterday noon, the popu- lar junior from Holland, Mich., was elected to succeed 1955's lead- er, guard Ed Meads. In the other big election, junior halfback Terry Barr from Grand Rapids, Mich., was named as the team's "most valuable player. The Wolverines' last captain at the end position, many seniors will remember, was Merritt (Tim) Green, who led the 1952 gridders in a five-won, four-lost season. Preceding Meads were two other linemen, Dick O'Shaughnessy and Ted Cachey in the fall of '53 and .r '54. Oosterbaan Also Captain It also is interesting to note that Head Coach Bennie Oosterbaan, a three-time All-American end,.cap- tained the 1927 Wolverines as a senior. Maentz's rise to the leadership spot for next year's hopeful team is quite a story in itself.
