TEMPOS THROUGH TIME: Central Commitee Selects 1956 Michigras Theme III 11 "Tempos Through Time" has been decided. upon as the theme of the 1956 Michigras by central com- mittee members. Barney Helzberg and Paula Strong, co-chairmen have agreed that this musical theme has end- less possibilities for being carried out, for all aspects of the event, such as in the Michigras parade as well as in the booths section of the carnival. Theme ideas may extend from the bongo drums of primitive man, through the stately minuets of Mozart, to the frolicing gay nine- ties, on through the rip-roaring twenties, right on up to the modern jazz age with "Rock Around the Clock," according to the co-chair- men. April 20 and 21 The two-day event will be pre- sented April 20 and 21 with late permission of 1:30 a.m. being pro- vided for women students both nights. Helzberg also remarked that he believed that the theme "has more motion and color than previous themes." "For instance," he continued, "this year for the first time, the theme of 'Tempos Through Time' can be easily adapted to produce such booths as 'Break the Record,' to something like 'So You Want To Lead a Band." Parade Meeting After Thanksgiving, housing re- presentatives will be contacted concerning a meeting to discuss the parade with Libby Garland and Bill Miller, parade co-chairmen. Full information regarding the construction of floats will be given at this meeting. Spending limits, materials which can be used and construction methods will be ex- plained by the co-chairmen. Other serious theme considera- tions of the central committee were such ideas as -"Oscar pre- sents," concerning A c a d e m y Award winning movies, hobbies, international travel and the Am- erican political scene. Miss Strong and Helzberg added, "We have set the basic theme and then each house may work out its own interpretations and ideas. Theme of the last Michigras was "Life's A Book," which depicted chapters in the life of the Michi- worm. k ll I V . meant for each other... these fashions in elveteen 1P A'p
