Michigan State will throw two
separate teams against Marquette
in the Spartan football finale to-
day in Macklin Stadium at East
Lansing.
Coach Duffy Daugherty plans to
reshuffle his usual starting line-
up in order to play as many sen-
iors as possible. He'll have 10 sen-
iors starting.
"We're making no concession to
Marquette in starting our seniors,"
Daugherty said. "They're all good
football players and have long
since earned the right to start the
final game."
Daugherty said he was certain
his players would be concentrating

Iowa Tests Notre Dame
In other leading Midwest clashes,
Notre Dame takes on traditionally
tough Iowa at South Bend and In-
diana and Purdue battle for the
"Old Oaken Bucket" at Bloom-
ington. Wisconsin is at Minnesota
and Northwestern entertains Ill-
inois in other Big Ten finales.
Orange Bowl contestants Ok-
lahoma and Maryland are each
favored by 20 points over Nebraska
and George Washington, respec-
tively.

LSU Students,
Develop'Clve
Cheer System
A new system to boost the spirit
of the football team has been de-
vised by LSU.
When LSU played Maryland,
the cheerleaders felt that some
sort of cheering section was need-
ed to boost the morale of the team.
The game was to be played at
Maryland so not many of the stu-
dents were able to attend.
Cheer While Listening
This did not stop the cheerlead-
ers. They met with the cheering
section in their stadium at LSU,
and gave out with the cheers as
if they were watching the game.
Actually they were listening to the
broadcast of the game.
It seems that they had hooked
up speakers to the stadium at
Maryland and the voices from
LSU were heard by all at the
game.
An electrical hook-up had thus
accomplished the feat of bringing
the cheers to the team although
the students were not able to at-
tend. An away game could not
quench LSU's school spirit.

Buckeye?
What in the name of Howard
Cassady is a Buckeye?
According to Mr. Webster, a
buckeye is a form of a chestnut, a
tree highly prevalent in Ohio many
years ago. Seems silly, then, to
wave a banner decorated with a
nut, and a commercial one at that.
So our friends fi'om Columbus
were faced with a big problem-
how to sport a school emblem that
wouldn't be considered a refresh-
ment.
Klem to the Rescue
Last year someone came to the
rescue of this famous educational
center in Ohio. His name is Bill
Klem (not the Klem of "I call's-
em-the-way-I-see-em" fame-just
an ordinary graduate of Ohio State
University).
Klem, an artist in North Ameri-
can's field service group at Los
Angeles' International Airport,
perked up when he noted the
familiar little drawing of Tommy
Trojan, Southern California's prize
artistic contribution to civiliza-
tion. This was about a year ago.
Klem designed an Ohio State
mascot to be known as "Bill Buck-
I-Rooter". The new mascot is a
little guy with big feet, wearing
a raccoon coat that collars right
under his ear lobes and reaches to
his instep. A pork pie hat, com-
plete with "OSU" feather in the
band, not only sits on top of his
head, but slips down to a nose that
any bloodhound would give a mil-
lion bucks for, even if it only had
one nostril.
Something Blurry ...
Over the right shoulder is drap-
ed a pennant with a big "O" on it.

In his right hand is something
blurry. Altogether it's very nice,
even though it makes no sense
whatsoever.
Klein was taking graduate work
at Southern California when he
dreamed up this masterpiece, and
received little moral support from
his prejudiced classmates. Un-
daunted, Our Hero slapped a copy-
right on "Bill Buck-I-Rooter" and
assigned all profits from sales to
the Ohio State Alumni Association.
Much of the proceeds from decals
and buttons bearing the emblem
were used to help send the Ohio
State Marching Band to the Rose
Bowl, last January 1.
One parting thought: an animal
known as the wolverine loves to
devour chestnuts.
