THE MCBIGAN DAILY FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1951 y W1/ 1WTCWiVGAN aIL FIAY OVMER1,15 Law School Book Studies State, Laws When a legislature enacts a state law, the statute must be legally correct, understandable, and just. Service bureaus are available in some states where the success or failure of similar laws may be studied. But most of the states have no facilities for such prelim- inary research. The University's Law School re- alized the need for such work and published, in 1953, the first of a series of volumes designed to fill the void of legal literature on state statutory enactments. Now the Legislative Research Center has published the 'second in the series, "Current Trends in State Legislation, 1953-1954." The purpose of this book is the presentation of new ideas in pri- vate law. The subjects covered were culled by Prof. William Pierce, of the law school, assistant direc- tor of LRC in 1952 and 1953. Written in a style which the LRC hopes will be understandable to the intelligent layman, the nine individual studies in the publica- tion consist of a critical analysis of the problem each statute at- tempts to solve, how adequately it did so, and possible changes that might be made to improve the law.
