NO 2-5915 Box office open daily 10-5 By SUZANNE JESSUP "Each year I marvel at the spirit and enthusiasm devoted to the show," Fred Evans, Union Opera director said today. Evans is beginning his sixth year as overall Opera director and choreographer. He plans to make it the zest possible show. The whole question of quality in Union Op- era shows is pretty controversial he remarked. "Each cast quite nat- urally feels they did the best job." "Possible but it would create complications," was Evans' com- ment to the suggestion of chang- ing the traditional all male show into a coed production. For ex- ample, the tours would probably have to be cancelled because of the problems involved in keeping the groups in hand. Evans added laughingly, "Perhaps Dean Rea and Dean Bacon would have to accompany such a tour." Alumni Would Resent Change "Naturally a great many loyal alumni would resent such a dras- tic change in tradition," he added. The Union Opera is a 36-year-old institution a n d people would strongly oppose destroying it. Evans is a professional general FRED EVANS ... Union Opera Director Thursday and Friday at 7 and 9 "HERE COMES MR. JORDAN"! with Edward Everett Horton Robert Montgomery Claude Rains, stage director. He began his ca- reer as an amateur show director, realised how little he knew and went to New York to study. He has held practically every job back of the curtain. Evans has also been a chorus boy and has done specialty dancing. Possibility of Revue Evans mentioned the future pos- sibilities of doing a revue rather than the present "book show" which follows a definite script. "Book shows are very time con- suming as far as the writing is concerned." Students would find it easier to write for a revue because short comedy material, songs and skits would be used, he explained. "Be- sides, a revue would be ideal for performers with limited talents who can sing but have trouble reading lines.' 50c DIAL NO 2-3 136 THIS GENTLEMAN PREFERS -GIRLSI: w" I LINES 1 DAY 3 DAYS 6 DAYS 2 .66 1.47 2.15 3 .77 1.95 3.23 4 .99 2.46 4.30 Figure 5 average words to a line.
