'Black Magic' is the theme chosen for the 1955 I-Hop, which will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, in the League Ballroom. The I-Hop, originally known as the A-Hop when I.H.C. and As- sembly were co-sponsors, is solely an Assembly project this year. One of the first all-campus dances of the season, it will fol-. low the Michigan-Northwestern football game. Two Bands Music which will appeal to the taste of everyone will be provided during the evening. In addition to the smooth, danceable music of Paul Brodie's Band, which will be featured in the Ballroom, the Ann Arbor Alley Cats ,will pre- sent specialty numbers in the Hus- sey Room of the League for the benefit of all Dixieland enthus- iasts. During intermission, exhibition dancers from the League dance classes will perform. The dance this year, as in others, will be informal. Women will wear dressy dresses, while the male attire will be the usual dark suits. Tickets To Be Sold Committee members urge every- one to remember tha "his is both a coed and a boy-bid dance. Tick- ets will be on sale in the League and in other campus buildings by the end of the week. The central committee mem- bers of this year's I-Hop include Nancy Case as general chairman, Connie Mair, who will handle the a decorations, and Baily Apple, who is in charge of ticket distribution. The finance and orchestra will be handled by Mary Kay Bawalda, while JoAnn Ropeta is program and patron chairman. Jean Un- derwood is in charge of publicity. Previous I-Hop Themes In keeping with some of the previous I-Hop themes, which, during the past five years, seem to have had "Darkness" as their watchword, is the theme of this year's event. Large shadow boxes with numerous silhouettes will produce a deep and mysterious spell on all those who attend. Recent I-Hop themes have fea- tured 'Blue Horizons,' 'Night of Knights' and 'A Thousand and One Nights.' The wonders of out- er space set the stage for the an- nual affair five years ago, when a rocket ship and murals depict- ing imaginary scenes on the moon transformed the Ballroom into a fantastic, unreal world: Football took the spotlight in 1949, when the theme "Welcome Army" tied in with the weekend of the Army-Michigan game, play- ed at home that year. Scenes of a typical football day were por- trayed around the walls and in the rooms of the second floor of the League.
