Washington St. R goddess Y9 League Posts To Be Filled By Petitioning Coed Positions Include Soph Scandals, JGP, Merit-Tutorial Jobs The League Interviewing and Nominating Committee announces numerous fall fill-in positions. Positions which are open on Junior Girls' play are composer- arranger chairman and posters chairman. JGP is an annual event, which is written, produced and directed by junior coeds. It was first pre- sented by six juniors, to the Uni- -ersity campus in the spring of 104 at Barbour Gym. Other Positions Open Other positions open to junior women are assistant chairman of the Merit-Tutorial Committee and memberships on the Public Re- Nations Committee. For sophomores there are sev- eral positions open on their an- nual event, Soph Scandals. Sopho- more women present a dance, shows and various types of enter- tainment on two different nights. 1 Their production originated in 1929 and have also become a cam- pus tradition. Soph Scandals position open- ings include the assistant secre- tary, assistant dance chairman, assistant chairman of tickets and assistant stage chairman. There are also two positions open as members of the Public Relations Committee. League Interviews Coeds All women interested in posi- tions on campus must write a pe- tttion. Coeds then are interviewed informally by members of the In- terviewing and Nominating Com- mittee of the League. The committee accepts all coeds' petitions and interviews each can-- didate trying out for a league posi- tion. Previous experience in the League is not important when pe- titioning. The factors which count are a coed's interest, plans for the position and her enthusiasm for lthe Job. Petitioning will open Monday, Oct 0, and continue until Mon- day, Oct. 17. Interviewing for the positions will be from Tuesday, Oct. 18, through Friday.Oct. 21. I crw Camatp I ASSEMBLY DORM COUNCIL- The Assembly Dormitory Council will meet at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the League. RIDING CLUB-Organizational meeting of the Riding Club will be held at 5 p.m. tomorrow in the arnall lounge of the WAB. SENIOR SOCIETY-There will be a meeting of Senior Society at p.m. tomorrow at the League. Health problems of freshmen students are of major importance to many campus organizations. It is not necessary to mention Health Service, and the Dean of Women's office, but few fresh- men women realize that the De- partment of Women's Physical Vogue Opens. Pr.ix ,de Paris For Seniors "V Vogue's 21st Prix de Paris Con- test is now accepting enrollments. Seniors interested in careers in writing, publishing, advertising, merchandising or decorating have until Saturday, Oct. 15, to enter the contest. Contestants are judged on their writing ability, grasp of subject matter, general intelligence, ori- ginality and demonstration of special talents. Actual Editorial Problems Using Vogue as a textbook, Prix de Paris competitors must com- plete two quizzes of four ques- tions each, based on actual edi- torial problems. Those who satis- factorily answer the quizzes will. be eligible to write a 1500 word thesis on one of the topics in the February 1956 issue of the maga- zine The first prize in the Prix de Paris Contest is $1000 cash or two weeks in Paris, with all expenses paid. The second prize is $500 cash. Each of ten honorable men- tion awards will receive $25 cash. First and second prize winners will receive top consideration for jobs on various Conde'-Nast pub- lications. Contestants To Be Recommended The next fifty top ranking con- testants will be recommended to stores, advertising agencies and other magazines. "Why do I have to take physi- cal education," is a common ques- tion of many freshmen. According to Dr. Margaret Bell, Chairman of the Women's Physical Education Department,'one reason for regu- lated activity is to assist students in coping with the strains of cam- pus life. Change of Activity A change in activity provides relaxation, and physical education provides a change from the mental activity of classes and homework, to the physical activity of the playing fields, swimming pool or tennis courts. Not only does physical activity reduce the tension of many hours of continuous study, but physical education improves posture, nu- trition, and muscle tone. The freshmen courses in 'phys. ed.' provide a foundation in re- creational skills that can be par- ticipated in long after college courses have been taken. Sports for All But a course in physical educa- tion is not the only way to gain the desired outcomes, and fresh- Women's Club To Present Tea For Newcomers The Newcomers Section of the Faculty Women's Club will open its new season by welcoming the wives of new University faculty and staff members at a tea at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Rackham Amphitheater. Preceding the tea Mr. Robert L. Gage, manager of the Ann Ar- bor Chamber of Commerce, will address the group on, "What New- comers Should Know About Ann Arbor". He -will also answer ques- tions about the community. Mrs. Franklin G.
