Annual Event To Be Held After Game Decorations To Create Unique Atmosphere At 'Golden Rule Ball' Bill Modlin, baton twirler with the Michigan Marching Band, will provide intermission enter- tainment at the Union-sponsored Golden Rule Ball to be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. tomorrow in the Rainbow Ballroom of the Union. Modlin will present demonstra- tions and explanations of the var- ious techniques of baton twirling. Golden Rule Ball is held tradi- tionally after the Michigan - Michigan State game. It takes place in Ann Arbor or East Lan- sing depending upon where the game is played. Unique Atmosphere Golden rulers, crepe paper streamers and colored lights will lend a unique atmosphere to the ballroom. A large football will be suspended from the ceiling di- rectly in front of the bandstand. Each couple attending the dance will be given a gold colored pro- gram decorated with a miniat',are golden ruler patterned after the larger rules which will decorate the ballroom. Music for dancing will be pro- vided by Red Johnson and his nine piece orchestra. Petitioning For League Opens Soon The League Interviewing and Nominating Committee announces the fall fill-in positions. Those positions which are open for sophomore coeds, on Soph Scandals, include the assistant secretary, assistant chairman of tickets, assistant chairman of dance, assistant stage chairman and there are two positions open on the Public Relations Commit- tee. Petitioning will open Monday, Oct. 10, and continue until Mon- day, Oct. 17. Interviewing for the positions will be from Tuesday, Oct. 18, through Friday, Oct. 21. Information may be secured in the Undergraduate Office of the League.1 Dances, Open Houses Planned for Weekend Meeting old and new faces on the Diagonal, pushing through crowds in the bookstores, and at- tending classes brings to a close the first week of traditional cam- pus life, while the excitement and anticipation of weekend activities takes its place. Phi Kappa Tau, Delta Tau Delta, Phi Sigma Delta, Zeta Beta Tau and Delta Upsilon are among the houses that are converting to the surrounding pigskin atmos- phere. Delta Theta Phi will be honor- ing alumni at a post game open house, while Acacia, Phi Chi, Pi Lambda Phi, Sigma Alpha Ep- silon, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Phi Del- ta Theta, Alpha Tau Omega and Delta Chi will be featuring in- formal dances to culminate the afternoon's excitement. Coeds invited to the Kappa Sig- ma house tomorrow night will be surrounded by an atmosphere of mysterious Africa at the Kappa Sig's post game record dance. On another continent Sigma Alpha Mu dates will be traveling East when they enter the Sammy house for their "behind the Bamboo Cur- tain" party. Informal record dances are be- ing held tomorrow night by Alpha Sigma Phi, Beta Theta Pi, Phi Alpha Kappa, Greene House, Phi Kappa Sigma, Phi Sigma Kappa, Theta Xi and Triangle. Honoring their newly activated members, Tau Delta Phi is plan- ning a house dance that will fea- ture a "Beat the Clock" theme. Acceptable Attire Acceptable attire for women will be dressy dresses while men will wear suits. Late permission of 1:30 a.m. has been granted to coeds for the dance. Based on the policy of "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you," the dance is co- sponsored by the unions of the r 11 University and Michigan State University. Ticket Sales Tickets for the dance may be purchased before and during the event at the entrance. This is the sixth consecutive year that the affair has been staged. When the joint dance was originally planned skeptics doubt- ed whether a peaceful atmosphere could prevail after the battle on the football field. Only friendship has reigned on the dance floor, however.
