THE MICHIGAN DAILY7 TUESDAY, MAY 29, 1958 wo Camps To Be Used i Freshman Rendezvous TRAINING CRUISE: Cadets To See World Freshman, Rendezvous, sponsored by the Office of Religious Affairs in cooperation with Inter-Frater- nity Council, Panhellenic, Inter- House Council and Assembly, will be held at two camps on Septem- ber 11-13 this fall. In addition to the regular pro- gram planned for the freshmen, a special discussion on extra-cur- ricular activities, highlighted by talks from Bill Adams, '57BAd, and Janet Neary, '58, president and vice-president respectively of S ENDING TONIGHT Student Government Council will be presented. University Fresh Air Camp and the Toledo YMCA Camp are the two camps to be used. Enrollment is expected to reach slightly over 200. Sixty student counselors have been picked as supervisors. President Harlan Hatcher of the University will welcome the freshmen before they leave for their respective camp sites. There they will be introduced to several administration and faculty mem- bers, including James A. Lewis, vice-president in charge of student affairs, Deborah Bacon, Dean of Women, and officials from the office of the Dean of Men. ENDING TONIGHT ~ - ...a w1ipswu~ FORDO BORGNINE ROD ST1Gco. m - By TOM BLUES Summer vacation will be far from uneventful for 110 Navy ROTC cadets. Future ensigns will be carrying cameras as well as sea bags when they leave in July for foreign ports around the world. Perhaps the pleasantest part of the midship- men's training is the summer training cruise. Three separate units, represent- ing the University will take part in this summer's maneuvers. Reg- ular midshipmen, those men who have won Navy scholarships and participated in three cruises dur- ing their college career, will take part in "Cruise Baker." Sixty of these men will leave Norfolk, Va. for a tour of several European ports. Scotland and Cuba Aside from the routines of sea training, these men will have the opportunity to visit Barcelona, Valencia, Belfast, Dublin, Glascow, and Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. One student, Scott Florence, 159E, is expecting to visit relatives in Glascow. "Cruise Charlie" will depart ORPH EUM STARTING FRIDAY WHAT A CRUISE' July 16 with twenty contract mid- shipmen. Visiting such ports as New Orleans, Cristobal,. Canal Zone, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, these men will be able to take advantage of Southern and South American hospitality. Cruisers and destroyers will be the vessels used in sea training exercises preparing the midship- men for commissions in the U.S. Navy. Advanced members who have already participated in two pre- vious cruises will spend their six weeks' time in Little Creek, Va., and Corpus Christi, Texas. These men will become acquainted with naval aviation at the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi. Amphibious Warfare Little Creek will be the scene of observation and participation in the Navy's latetst types of am- phibious warfare. All this adds up to what sounds like an educational and exciting experience. But that's not all! They get paid for it too. Each Midshipman receives approxi- mately $110 per month plus room and board. Included also are traveling expenses to and from the points of departure., Since many of the midshipmen are planning to take cameras with them, there will probably be plenty of pictures of Europe, South Amer- ica and. Cuba that will be shown FOR RENT ACROSS FROM FERRY FIELD. 1 Bach- elor Apartment. Air conditioned. If desire furnished June 8-Sept 10. If desire unfurnished, available June 8 through next year.
