However, a few brave fraternities are putting off the inevitable for one more party. The Sigma Nus will be dancing in style, having a formal on a member's yacht on Lake St. Clair. Lambda Chi Alpha's formal "South Winds", will feature a tro- pical atmosphere. Delta Upsilon is holding its an- nual "Lawn Formal" in honor of the graduating seniors and this semester's pledge class. The. de- corations are planned around a southern plantation type theme. Delta Kappa Epsilon and Phi Kappa Psi are also having their pledge formals while Theta Xi is holding its annual spring formal. Dates for the Phi Gamma Delta grass skirt party were invited in a special manner. Howling "Fiji Islanders" ran through the dining halls summoning dates. Delta Tau Delta alumni will be honored at a picnic Saturday af- ternoon with a party planned at the house for that night. Chi Phi is planning a dinner be- fore their record dance Saturday night. Phi Kappa Sigma and Sig- ma Alpha Epsilon, are also hold- ing casual record dances. Special entertainment is plan- ned for the "Blue Book Blues" Ball3 to be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.1 Saturday in the Union Ballroom. Joy Myers, a night-club style singer, is featured. Formerly with Paul Brodie's Orchestra, she will sing such numbers as "Again," "Getting to Know You" and "My Funny Valentine." Red Joh'nson is providing the music for dancing. His Quintet for Five will offer some jazz. This is a special combo for this event, including Jim Pullin, drums; Red Johnson, piano; Dave Flowers, trumpet; Ben Patterson, base, and Bob Branzett, clarinet. A motion was passed by ADC members to have a service pro- ject, rather than to have a financ- ial obligation, for Assembly next year. ADC president Jean Scruggs will attend the National Students As- sociation Congress. During the summer, Assembly will be sending out a newsletter to all returning independent women who are upperclassmen. On the newsletter will be a calendar of events for the coming year. Next fall, with the exception of Betsy Barbour and the League Houses, there will be no less than four house council members from each dormitory returning for the period of orientation. The University will cover the cost of board and room for the four who return so that they will be able to be on hand to welcome the incoming students. Twelve "freshmen informers" are needed from various geogra- phic areas where there are not strong alumni groups. Wofrien who participate in this service project will be available to give information to freshmen who contact them during the summer months. Those who are interested may put their names and home ad- dresses in Miss Scrugg's box in the League Undergraduate Office. U S E 0 U R Steve Simich has been chosen 4 general chairman of the 1957 J- Hop. Assisting Simich will be the nine other members of the J-Hop Cen- tral Committee chosen from the current sgphomore class. Mike Gordion will handle financ- es while Art Epker will be in charge of buildings and grounds. Booths chairman is Mike Jack- son and decorations head is Pat Skelly. Ann McDonald will ar- range for bands for the formal dance. Publicizing J-Hop activities will be Marilyn Houck with Shelly Baum managing the special events which will highlight the weekend. Ticket sales will be under the direction *of Bunny Lifshey while Vera Ptak will provide for patrons, programs and favors. J-Hop,- the annual dance pre- / sented by the junior class, will mark its 80th year as the class of '58 takes over the affair. Held traditionally between se- mesters, J-Hop, one of the most im{ortant social events at the Uni- versity, features two name bands in a one night stand. The second night of the week- end is devoted to an informal dance or special event Featuring a plantation theme, the most recent J-Hop was titled "Rebelaire" Counselors Men students interested in acting as summer counselors at the Fresh Air -Camp are asked to call the Fresh Air Camp office in the basement of the School of Education. Potter of Dear- born recently announced the en- gagement of her daughter, Ann Weir Patterson, to Arthur C. Sup- erko, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Superko of Dearborn.
