Wallingford Captures Mile, Two Mile. in Track Victory t- (Continued from Page 1) Perhaps the best performance in any one event was executed by the nation's leading broad-jumper, Hoosier Greg Bell,. who landed 25'5'/2" over the foul line to defeat the runner-up, crimson-clad Brea- lon Donaldson., Dominate Broad Jump Donaldson's jump was an ex- cellent 23'55/8. In these two men. the Big Ten broad-jumping pic- ture is pretty well concentrated. The half-mile 1lroved a mild dis- appointment, as Michigan's Pete Gray showed that he has plenty of conditioning ahead of him if he is to be considered a threat to repeat as champ in the Conference 880. Indiana's Bob Miller won the event, Rob VMarian capturing sec- ond for the Blue and visitor Bob Lawson taking third. Gray, with about 220 yds. left, slipped back and finished very weakly. So did his teammate, Laird Sloan, who needs more work to recover from being hit by a pulled leg muscle at the Penn Relays. In the 100, the favored Jimmy Pace finished a surprising third, probably due to the fact that he hasn't pulled out of his weakened state which arose from the back injury sustained in spring football. Michigan's Bob Brown ran brilli- antly to win it in :09.8. A bit of farce was the mile re- lay, run of f after the Wolverines had already clinched the meet. Blues Win Final Grid Scri~mmage i By DICK C RAMER Offensive power of the smaller Blue squad was just too much for the White team yesterday in spring football's annual closing in- trasquad scrimmage at the Michi- gan Stadium. A ,sun-drenched crowd of nearly 10,000 watched the Blues, led by Ron Kramer at right halfback, grind out a 34-7 triumph over the outclassed Whites. Kramer gar- nered 20 points for himself and was involved in the scoring of seven more points for the winners. Composed of returning letter- men and some of the most prom- ising of the Wolverine freshmen, the Blue gridders were never seri-I ously challenged by the less star- studded White squad. By the end of the first half the score was 21-0 with Kramer hav- ing tallied the first and third touchdowns on a two-yard plunge and a. short pass reception. A lateral from Jim Van Pelt to Dave Rentschler resulted in the Blues' other marker. ,The Whites finally entered the scoring late in the third period Grid Awards Fullback John Herrnstein and quarterback-halfback Bob Ptacek were named co-winners yesterday of the Meyer WV. Mor- ton Trophy given annually to the most valuable candidate in Michigan's spring footbalil prac- tice. after Kramer'' had scored the fourth Blue touchdown on a five- yard run. Fullback Steve Zervas plunged over from the one after he, halfback Mike Shatusky and quarterback Jack Lousma had maneuvered the baU) from deep in White territory. In retaliation, the Blues exe- cuted their final and most spark- ling scoring play of the day-a 58-yard effort by Kramer and quarterback Jim Maddock. Kra- mer carried the ball from the Blue 42 to the White 12 where he later- aled to Maddock who proceeded into pay dirt with Kramer con- tributing a key block.
