TH , MCBIGA.N DAILY THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 1958 THE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, APRJTJ 19, 1956 ngieerin g President .rnounees Class Boards New engineering class boardsv vill go into effect after May 2, ecording to Engineering Council resident Bill Diamond, '57. "The purpose of these class oards," said Diamond, "will be o give students experience and nformation in various service rojects which are of a non-tech- ical nature."- "The reasons these class boards re being devised is because only 0 percent of the students graduat- ng in engineering actually go into heir respective field," Diamond eclared. "The graduates find hat they need experence in other Ines of work and I think the lass is the most logical place"for uch experience.- A class picnic, such as that held 1 the spring between the senior nd freshmen engineering stu- ents, is one example of how the ouncil 'could plan things"to do ith other people on a non-tech- ical basis, Diamond asserted. Seminar Programs Suggested Another suggestion included se- ainar programs, 'devised, to give iformation on professional regis- -ation insurance and other im- ortant matters. The boards, comprised of a resident; vice-president, secre- ary-treasurer, and six other mem- ers will hold office for one year. ach class board will have a com- ion constitution, patterned afteri he present Engineering Council nodel, Diamond said. Must Require Signatures Students petitioning for an of- .ce must acquire 75 signatures 'hile those petitioning for a board ost must receive 50. Deadline for etitions is tomorrow..,! Students running for an office will also have their names inserted on the board ballot, Diamond ex- plained. After the three officers have been elected, they will be scratched from the board ballot and the next top six will be elect- ed to board positions. Diamond cited the present jun- iors and Dean. George Brown as the chief -"driving forces" behind the board project. Psychology Staff To Hold Open House An informal faculty-student cof-' fee hour and a series of laboratory' trips will highlight the psycholo- gy department's open house on the third floor of Mason Hall from 2 to 5 p.m. today.
