1- MCMGAN DAILY SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 1958 [LBERT & SULLIVAN SOCIETY Pio r Engn ers presents (Builds Circulation, Budget !M1111 I I By TED FRFEDMAN Launched last semester with $40 and a blessing from the Engineer- ing Council, the "Arch" newspaper has built itself up to a circulation of 17,000 and a monthly budget of $300. Intended to disseminate news of specific interest to engineering students, the Arch not only covers lectures and exhibits, but has car- toons, Jokes and special features. "A member of the Arch staff eriered one of the administrative offices for an interview," one re- cent issue notes. He introduced himself by saying, 'I'm from the Arch.' As a reply, he received, 'Is t cold down there?'" More Serious Work In a more serious vein, the Arch has printed articles such as the effectiveness of the school's honor code, engineering students on Stu- dent Government Council, and minutes of Engineering Council meetings. The magazine is succeeding so well that editor Sheldon Levin, '57E, indicated it may be converted from a bi-weekly paper to a weekly. "We should be $250 ahead for the first five issues." But he said there is only one thing in the way of conversion to a weekly, "More staff: right now there are only nine." Levin explained that the maga- zine is distributed without cost. "Two hundred copies are distrib- uted to the faculty and the rest we put out in the halls." .
