Coeds interested are invited to attend a mass meeting at 5 p.m. today at the Women's Athletic Building. They m, y pick up peti- tions at Barbour Gymnasium, which are due Wednesday, March 2, in WAA President Margaret Lord's box in the League Under- graduate Office. Interviewing for the presidency will take place on Friday, March 4, while the other petitioners will }fe interviewed the following week. Announcement of the results will take place in April on Installation Night. Athletic Convention , The President will be announced earlier, because she will. represent the University at the semi-annual National Convention of the Athlet- ic Federation of College Women to be held from March 30-April 2 at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. There are many different posts 'open. The position of president is open to Pny Junior. In addition to orking as head of the WAA Board with its special projects, she is also a member of the League Council. Freshmen, sophomores and jun- iors may petition for the remain- ing jobs. In charge of WAA bulletin boards and handling of secondary projects is the public relations chairman. In addition positions of co- managers for the co-rec clubs of badminton, ballet, ice-skating, modern dance and riding are open to both men and women. Coed Clubs Managers of these clubs plus the coed clubs of basketball, bowl- ing, camp counselors, diving, fencing, field hockey, golf, Michi- fish, rifle, speed swimming and tennis will be in charge of organi- zation and planning of activities of their group. They will help the present man- agers of clubs until the end of the year. THE PETITIONING PROCESS: STEP 1: Students may pick up their petitions for all League, Assembly Asisociation, Women's Athletic Association and Pan- hellenic Association positions in the League Undergraduate Of- fice (opposite the elevator on" first floor). Petitions for WAA offices are also available at Bar- bour Gymnasium. STEP 2: Since experience is not necessary for most positions, students are urged to consult The President's Reports volumes containing a detailed report of all positions along with sugges- tions for the future. Available for consultation in the League library (third floor), the books are collections of individual re- ports of previous office holders. STEP 3: Sally Lorber, chairman of the League Interviewing and Nominating Committee stresses the importance of talking with students now in office. Mass meetings, open houses and cof- fee hours are scheduled by all organizations especially for this purpose. The League interview- ing committee will also hold of- fice hours for students who would like additional informa- tion. STEP 4: Besides answering the routine questions on the peti- tion (name, address, petitions desired, etc.), students are re- quested to attach additional pages explaining the following: why they are interested in the position, what, in their opinion, the duties are, their ideas for the job and their experience, if any, which applies to the posi- tion. STEP 5: Students return peti- tion to the League Undergrad- uate office and sign up for in- terviews on lists located on the bulletin board there. Interviews are informal and usually last between eight and 15 minutes, depending upon the organiza- tion. Interviewing committees attempt to place the right peo- ple on the right jobs. Coeds may petition for any number of positions. Coeds To Vie For Positions With Panhel Petitioning for affiliated women for Panhellenic Association posi- tions will be held approximately the third week in March. Petitions for the position of Jun- ior Panhellenic President are due at 5 p.m. today in the Undgrgradu- ate Office of the League. Any member of a pledge class who has a 2.0 scholastic average may turn in her petition and sign up for an interview to be held between 3 and 5 p.m. Friday. Panhellenic positions open to junior women who will become sen- iors next fall are offices of presi- dent, two vice-presidents, treasur- er, chairman of rushing chairmen and public relations director. In addition to handling finances for Panhel, the treasurer will be in charge of the pledge training program. The chairman of rush- ing chairmen will work with the rushing heads of the individual houses, helping to co-ordinate the parties and other rushing plans. Women who will be either jun- iors or seniors may petition for chairman of rushing counselors. It will be the duty of this office to head the group of women who will temporarily disaffiliate themselves from their sororities to advise rushees. The job of Panhel secretary will be available to sophomore coeds. Other positions which will be opened to petitioning are those of parliamentarian a n d assistant rushing chairman. Junior and sophomore places on the secretarial committee and three memberships on the public relations committee will be filled by interviews with the Panhellenic Board without having applicants write petitions. President of Junior Panhellenic Association will be selected from the members of that group to head the organization for the following year. Petitions may be obtained in the League Undergraduate Office and should be returned there. ,I { 1 Junior Coeds Will Petition For Senior Posts in League chairman of the spring project which is alternately Michigras or Spring Weekend. House Managers The vice-president or student relations is chairman of the house athletic managers, who are in charge of athletic events in the various women's residences; while the co - recreational chairman heads the board composed of men and women who are co-managers of the co-recreational clubs. She is also in charge of the Co- recreational Nights at the Intra- mural Building. Taking the minutes of the meet- ings is the job of the secretary; "treasurer handles finances and supplies requisitions. , Also available is the position of American Federation of College Women representative. Her work 'includes corresponding with the national and state AFCW and keeping in touch with their activi- ties. Second Vice-President The second Vice-President will occupy a newly created office. The woman holding this job will su- pervise the Buro-Cats. In addition, she will preside over the Ethel A. McCormick Scholarship Commit- tee and act as advisor during Sen- ate meetings. This position is open to sophomore women ,as well as juniors this year. Keeping the minutes of meet- ings of the Board of Governors, the League and the League Coun- cil will be the principle duty car- ried out by the League Secretary. Taking her post. behind the budget sheets, the coed filling the job of Treasurer will compile the composite budget and supervise the expenditures and revenues of the League. Interviewing and Nominating The busy coed taking over as chairman of the Interviewing and Nominating Committee will direct the work of her committec mem- bers and in addition will serve as member of the League Council. Taking minutes of meetings of the interviewing committee, keep- ing files of candidates and sched- uling interviews are among the chief duties of the Secretary of the interviewing committee. Organizing, managing and pub- licizing the League Dance classes will rest with the coed filling the job of chairman of the dance classes. Dance Class Assistants Finance Chairman and Senior Captain of the dance classes will assist the chairman of each proj- ect and help obtain coeds to act as hostesses. Keeping a record of tutors and students who want to be tutored is the chief task of the chairman of Merit-Tutorial. She will also keep the lists of extra-curricular ac- tivities of all women students. The coed becoming chairman of Orientation will provide group leaders for the freshman and transfer orientation programs. She will also work with the men's orientation leaders and chairmen in planning the opening week ac- tivities. Varied Duties Social and Booths Chairmen of Orientation will help carry out the varied duties necessary in pro- viding a successful orientation. Chairman of Women's Judiciary will review the work of the various House Judiciary and League House Judiciary Councils and preside over the Council when it hears re- ferred cases. The Vice-chairman of' Judiciary this year may be either a senior or junior. Community Service Directing the work of the Com- munity Service committee will be the job of the coed who receives thisrchairmanship. She will also fill requests for short time volun- teer services and keep a record of the community service interests of all women students. Responsibility for the League Li- brary and the Barbara Little Lis- tening rooms will occupy the tal- ents of the coed taking over the position of Chairman of House Committee. The student chosen Chairman of Public Relations will work with other committees to publicize League facilities, co-operate with the Union to produce the Union- League calendar and radio pro- grams and publish the League Lowdown. Chairman of the Social Com- mittee will take charge of Hatcher Open Houses, bridge lessons and dances. Responsible for the part the League plans in League Night dur- ing Orientation week, the coed taking over the position of Chair- man of Special Projects will also assist at try-outs and production of Gulantics. League House Offices League House Judiciary Council Chairman, Secretary and Member- At-Large, as permanent members and officers of the Council, will have jurisdiction over minor dis- ciplinary problems involving stu- dents living in League Houses. The students assist in ar- ranging tutors for students desir- ing academic aid. Personnel committee assistants help the chairman get names of, volunteers for hospital work, for ushering and other volunteer services. The list continues with four as- sistants for the special projects committee which runs Gulantics The social committee, which plans the bridge lessons, League Open Houses, Hatcher teas and other social functions, will have four openings for assistants. Junior Girls' Play, an original production presented by junior coeds, will provide positions for next year's central committee. The central committee will be composed of a general chairmnan, assistant general chairman, di- rector, secretary and treasurer with the chairmanships on the following committees also avail- able: tickets, music, choral, make- up, costume, stage, programs, properties and publicity.
