FRIDAY, MAY 13, 1955% THE MIC IGAIN DAILY PAGE THREE FR WAY, MAY 13, 1~55 THE Mi&3li1(iAi% IAIiA PAGE THREE Assembly Association Through its yearly activities, 4'Assembly Association, the organi- zation for unaffiliated women, has succeeded in stablizing' itself fi- nancially. Addition of a clause to the As- sembly Constitution allowing for a tax to be collected has facili- tated this acconiplishment. The tax is drawn from residence hall dues and should not require extra funds from students. Assembly began its activities for the year with its annual Orienta- tion Week event welcoming new freshmen women and transfers. Fall Picnic Held A fall picnic was held at Pal- mer field and the spring semester was ushered in with a social get- acquainted party at the Women's Athletic Building. "Thousand and One Nights" set the mood at the traditional "I- Hop" held in October in coopera- tion with IHC. In November Hobbs House, Newberry, and Kleinstuck residences took the honors at the annual Fortnight, this year dra- matizing the theme "Skits on the Scales." A can of food donated by each coed replaced the usual meal tickets in residence halls when As- sembly sponsored "Tin Can Din- ners" to supply Thanksgiving feasts to needy Ann Arbor fami- lies. Workshop Conference February was a busy month for the group with the Panhellenic- Assembly Exchange Dinner de- signed to strengthen relations be- tween independent and affiliated women. Filling the social calendar in March was the annual semi-for- mal Assembly Ball. Assuming the name "Un-Birthday Ball," the dance displayed an Alice-in-Won- derland theme. Climaxing the year's activities in May was the Installation Tea. The Daily this year worn an All American Award from the Associ- ated Collegiate Press. Throughout the year, students worked until 2 and 3 a.m. turning out stories and editorials and putting together pages. Gargoyle and Generation pro- vided creative writers and artists with the opportunity of having work published. Gargoyle scored with its famous New Yorker paro- dy issue and Generation printed the stories and poetry of young writers. Michiganensian has worked dil- igently to turn out its annual year- book. Students spent many hours working on page layouts and pro- viding the yearbook with original art work. Technic, the engineering stu- dents' magaine, provided engineer- ing students and engineers all over the country with informative and interesting articles. * * * - The Daily EDITORIAL STAFF SENIOR EDITORS Eugene Hartwig, '55, Managing' Editor Dorothy Myers, '55, City Editor Jon Sobeloff, '55, Editorial Direc- tor Pat Roelofs, '55, Associate City Editor Becky Conrad, '55, Associate Ed- itor Nan Swinehart, '55, Associate Editor NIGHT EDITORS Dave Baad, '56 Joel Berger, '55 Debra Durschlag, '56 Jim Dygert, '56 BAd .JIJy I VL1 Milt Goldstein, '57, Assistant Lo- cal Advertising Manager Joe Frisinger, '56, Assistant Lo- cal Advertising Manager Stew Evans, '56, Classified Ad- vertising Manager Pat Lamberis, '57, Assistant Clas- sified Manager Dorothy Goldman, '56, Nation- al Advertising Manager Dick Alstrom, '56, Promotions r Manager Dave Silver, '57, Assistant Pro- motions Manager Sandy Wasserstein, '57, Assistant r Promotions Manager Gail Cohen, '56, Layout Manag- er. Con- struction should be completed by the end of 1956, although some' areas of the new addition will be temporarily unfinished. A new banquet room, music lis- tening rooms, expanded cafeteria facilities and a remodeled lobby are among the present construc- tion projects. In October the Union greeted former officers who served during the organization's 50 year history. Banquets, reunions, tours of the campus and a dance were includ- ed in the weekend's activities. Last month the Union enter- tained the students at its 50th year open house. Hospital talent shows and a campus leadership training course are two of the Union's new pro-j jects this year.
