V w 'LITTLE HOPE' Efimenco Gives Views On Egypt, Israel Conflict DAILY OFFICI "The theme of instability be- tween Egypt and Israel, resumed in the recent Gaza conflict, indi- cates that there is slight hope for peace between the two countries," Prof. N. Efimenco of the political science department said. Gaza, which is a boundry be- tween the two countries, was at- tacked by Israel last month. The Israelis claimed that the Egyp- tians were the aggressors. The case is now before the Security Council of the United Nations. Possible Solutions "Peace between the two coun- tries lies on the shoulders of their future generations who might be free from the emotional instabili- ties which the present generation is now incurring," Efimenco com- mented. "The only other possible way to arrive at peace is for the United States, Britain, and France to in- tervene as great powers and hand down decisions, using military force if necessary," he continued. Prof. Efimenco said that the Egyptians provoked the incident by refusing to allow Israeli ships to pass through the Suez Canal, claiming that they were still in a state of war with Israeli. League Split One Cause Splitting of the Arab League, de- signed to check Israeli attacks, was cited as another reason for the at- tack by the political science in- structor. The League, which was com- prised of Egypt, Syria, and Iraq split when Iraq pulled out to ally with Turkey. He stated that the Israeli at- tack indicated that they also con- sidered the two countries to be in a state of war and was designed to test the Egyptian strength. "Both countries are of signifi- cance to the United States," Pro- fessor Efimenco commented, be- cause they play a major part in the defense of the Middle East. Honor Society Celebrates Its Anniversary Scabbard and Blade, national military honor society, is celebrat- ing its 50th birthday today.
