From a combined yearly enroll- ment of 96 students in the three and five year programs which the four year program replaced, the enrollment has grown to the pres- ent high of 197 in this year's fresh- man class. Student Recruiters Rhoda Reddig, director of nurs- ing, commented, "A large part of the credit for this terrific response goes to our students who are our best recruiters." The basic reasons behind the change were the facts that today the nurse is given more responsi- bility in the actual care and treat- ment of the patient and she must therefore have a more thorough understanding of the patient and his personality. The four year program accom- plishes these aims by providing a background in general education as well as in nursing. This pro- gram integrates courses in the nursing school with courses in the medical school, school of educa- tion and literary college. Well-Earned Reward A highlight in the career of any nurse is the day she receives the wide black strip for her cap at the beginning of her senior year. The seniors then hand down their nar- row black strips to the new jun- iors who will wear for the first time the symbol of their class standing. In her sophomore year the nursing student experiences her, first actual laboratory practice in hospital work. This educational practice increases from three hours a week in the sophomore year to 25 hours a week in the last two yearsL The nurse also has 15 hours of general electives in her junior and senior years. besides clinical ex- perience with patient care in the hospital home and community. Coming to the University as a freshman the nursing student lives in any of the, dormitories. In her sophomore year she moves to Cou- zens Hall, the nursing student dor- mitory across from the hospital. Assembly Association, the or- ganization representing independ- ent women, has announced that petitioning for Fortnight positions will open tomorrow. Coeds are asked to petition for general chairman, skits chairman, awards chairman, program chair- man, and publicity chairman. Petitioning for the skit night event closes Friday, and interview- ing will begin the next week. Original Fortnight Fortnight, to be presented Nov. 22, originally took place over a period of two weeks. Three sep- arate ceremonies were celebrated over the fourteen days. These in- cluded recognition night, installa- tion of house presidents, and, cli- maxing the two weeks, the fort- night skits. On recognition night, independ- ent women who had been out- standing in scholarship or extra- ,urricular activities were honored. Residence halls having the great- est coed participation in extra- curricular activities sand the best over-all scholastic averages also received awards. Skits Highlight Event Fortnight noy combines all three events into one gala night cen- tering around the skits. The skits are judged on the basis of origi- nality, effectiveness of presenta- tion, clarity and audience response and the winning groupis given an award. Petitions may. be picked up Mon- day in the Undergraduate office in the League. Additional informa- tion regarding these positions is available in the Presidents' Re- ports in the League. ,: - ;I [I] Er .1 .:I El 4,, 1F. :1, the CoIlok Moth Proofing ON ALL GARMENTS MICROCLEANED Guaranteed against damage from moths for six months a SWEATERS Blocked in Hollywood Frames to your measurements - Guaranteed perfect.
