The ballroom, which has been the scene of numerous campus dances, banquets and meetings for many years, was remodeled with a new lighting system, movable stage and new furnishings. The color scheme of the room is gold, grey and white with a touch of turquoise. The ceiling has been painted white with gold arch- es and side walls down to the pan- eling, which is stained grey. Drap- eries for the ballroom are gold- colored raw silk with padded cor- nices, while the side chairs have been done in a dark turquoise. Features New Lighting Another new feature is the "flush-lighting" system, which con- sists of a series of 10 lights and three series of built-in spotlights for dances. Reflector lamps in the hostess alcove throw shadows on the gold draperies in the north end of the room, making the nubby gold glitter. The present plan is to put the stage on the south side of the ballroom for dances. Remodeling Committee Mrs. Herbert Taggert, president of the League Board of Governors, was in charge of the remodeling, assisted by Mrs. Edith M. Wheel- er, business manager of the League, and Lucy Landers, presi- dent of the League and vic'e-presi- dent of the Board. "The ballroom face-lifting,' " said Mrs. Wheeler, "has been the main project of the League Board this year." The first function to be held in the newly-remodeled ballroom will be the reception held for new vice-president John A. Lewis, head of student affairs at the University. The reception, open to the entire campus will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the League. Other recent remodeling in the League includes the Barbara Little Listening Rooms on the third floor across from the League Library, the Rumpus Room in the basement and cafeteria and Undergraduate, Offices on the first floor. On the third floor is the League Library, which is open to women only, and the Barbara Little Lis- tening Rooms, which are available to men and coeds for studying or lisitening to records. Every fraternity and sorority on campus has been invited. A reply is requested from each house stat- ing the number of tickets the house wants. Sigma Nu was the first fraternity to carry out this system of sending mass invita- tions to all affiliates. Originates in Virginia Both ATO and Sigma Nu ori- ginated at the Virginia Military Institute. The dance was first presented there as a climax to a series of rivalries between the two fraternities. Each year members of Sigma Nu visit every sorority house and make a speech inviting the house to the dance. A long-stemmed white rose is then presented to a member of the house. It is customary for ATO to re- turn the honor by presenting the Blackfoot Ball for the Sigma Nus later in the year. Sincenthe White Rose Ball is a traditional dance, all national chapters of Sigma Nu present the dance annually. Originally the dance took place in the spring but since there was much interference with other spring formals, the time was changed to autumn. Sigma Nu's are inviting friends and all other fraternity and sor- ority members on campus. All de- corations and programs will car- ry out the "white rose" theme. Entertainment will be presented at intermission. Oxford grey, navy, and white flannel also, White shetland wool Guaranteed satisfaction!!
