MASS MEETING SCHEDULED: Union, WAA Plan Spring Weekend Plans for a gala Spring Weekend sponsored by the Women's Athletic Association and the Union are well under way. Barbara Burstein and Stan Lei- ken, co-chairmen of the weekend, have announced a mass meeting for all those interested in working on the various committees. The meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the League Ballroom. At this meeting chairmen of the committees will explain the type of work for which each committee is responsible. Those attending will have a chance to sign up for the committee oftheir choice. March 28, 1953 was the date of the last Spring Weekend which is held in the off-years of Michigras. Over 700 enthusiasts turned out to watch the second Wolverun Der- by, a soapbox race in which racers from 25 different organizations and housing units were entered. Before the race the weekend was officially opened by a procession led by the Phi Gamma Delta marching band from the Union to the "race track" on E. Washington St. behind Health Service. Climaxing the weekend was Skit Night. Participating houses submit- ted scenarios to the central com- mittee early in the winter and from these six were chosen to pre- sent their show in Hill Auditorium. With proceeds from the weekend going to charity, this year'scen- tral committee hopes to duplicate the success of Spring Weekend, 1953 and make that of 1955 the best yet. Plans for the Wolverun Derby, Skit Night, open houses, and other special events are well under way. With fun and help to charity as Pay only established prices i for your RONSON or Z[PPO. An all-campus event, tickets for the dance may be purchased for $3.30 from any Barrister member. If bought at the door, the charge will be $3.85. The Barristers Society, organ- ized in 1904, is the oldest honorary society in Law School. It has 25 members who meet approximately every two weeks. According to tradition, all mem- bers at the meetings must wear black string ties, which are the symbol of the organization and are worn the night of initiation cere- monies. n I m By ELAINE EDMONDS Because of the negligence of a hunter, the University Museum of Zoology has become the possessor of a golden eagle., The bird was shot on Sugar Is- land in the Detroit River recently by a duck hunter. The body of the bird, which is protected by law in Michigan; was confiscated by the Conservation Service and sent to the University Museum. Most commonly found in the mountains of the west, the golden eagle is rarely seen in Michigan. Records show that the bird has been observed in this state only a few times. The length of the bird is about three feet and the wing spread ap- proximately six feet. One of the largest and most mag- nificent of the eagle species, the golden eagle is characterized by a dark brown body and a head and neck of golden brown. The bird has a rounded dark brown tail ending in dark and light tones. I If r v e e In order to preserve the bird it has been stuffed with cotton, ex- celsior and borax. A wooden stick is inserted in the neck of the bird. According to Robert W. Storer, assistant curator of birds at the museum, the golden eagle will last at least 100 years after being pre- pared in this way. The Barristers sored the "Wig 1929, this year Cory chairman.
