Profits for Awards The League handles the talent for the production, the Union man- ages the staging and the Men's Glee Club looks after finances and takes care of the publicity. Prof- its from the show are used in the Glee Club Scholarship Fund for awards given annually by the Glee Club. Founded by Prof. Philip A. Duey, director of the Glee Club, in an ef- fort to give students a chance to show their talent, a contest was held the first year to determine a name for the production. The winner used the letters G for Glee Club, U for Union, L for League and added "antics" to form Gulantics, and Gulantics it has re- mained. Seventh Annual This year's Gulantics, the sev- ' enth annual production, will be presented sometime in March. Us- Sophomore coeds are making fi- nal preparations for the Soph Scan- dals weekend of dancing and vari- ety shows today and tomorrow. Two original performances will highlight the entertainment for each evening. The first show will include "Chief Michidrama," who will introduce scenes depicting col- lege days throughrthe ages. "Chief Michigrama" will an- nounce skits on the football days, dateless days, and the effects of war days. Coeds have made up acts featur- ing special places on college cam- puses all over the country, includ- ing Michigan State, Harvard and the University of Miami. Decorations will be in keeping with the themes of the shows. The corridor of the second floor of the League will display s c e n e s, "through the ages." Each room will be decorated to represent the colleges mentioned in the skits. The Michigan Room, to be used for refreshments, will re- semble the Grill of the Union of Michigan State, while lounges will have scenes from tropical Miami to provide an atmosphere of relax- ation. Both variety shows will be pre- sented in the Hussey Room. Red Johnson and his Orchestra will provide music in the main ballroom and Earl Pearson and his Orchestra will perform in the Van- denberg Room. Tickets are now on sale at the League, on the Diagonal and in the residence halls. They are priced at$1.80 per couple and 90 cents per person.% According to the central commit- tee, students may come in couples or stag. In previous years, the sophomore productions were known as Soph Cabaret. This year several new ideas are being introduced, such as two orchestras for both evenings and two different shows instead of the game booths and carnival-like atmosphere which usually pre- vailed, according to Mary Lee Bir- mingham, general chairman.
